From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
SymbioticA is an artistic research lab in Nedlands, part of the University of Western Australia.
The only of its kind, it looks at biological science from an artistic point of view. It won the 2007 inaugural Golden Nica for Hybrid Arts in the Prix Ars Electronica.
SymbioticA was established in 2000 by artist Oron Catts, biologist Miranda Grounds, and neuroscientist Stuart Bunt. Oron Catts and Ionat Zurr from the Tissue Culture and Art Project (TC&A) had been working as researchers and artists in residence in the School of Anatomy and Human Biology and the Lions Eye Institute since 1996.
