Télétoon (stylized as TÉLÉTOON) is a Canadian French language cable television specialty channel that specializes in animation programming. Télétoon is owned by Teletoon Canada Inc; a 50/50 partnership between Astral Media and Corus Entertainment. The name is a portmanteau of television and cartoon and has no parent connection to the television channel in France of the same name.
Télétoon is the French counterpart to the English television channel, Teletoon.

[edit] History
Licensed in 1996 by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), the French language channel was the first to launch on September 8, 1997. It was originally owned by a consortium made up of various other Canadian specialty services and producers; The Family Channel Inc. acting as managing partner at 53.3% (Astral Media & WIC), YTV Canada Inc. at 26.7% (Shaw Communications), Cinar and Nelvana with 10% each. Through various acquisitions over the years, ownership resulted in both Astral Media and Corus Entertainment owning a 50% stake in the service.
On February 5, 2007, Télétoon's network layout was dramatically changed as was its website, and Le Détour's website was moved to teletoon.com, and the aesthetic appearance of both the normal block and Le Détour changed.
[edit] Programming
Most of the shows on Télétoon are dubbed from their English counterpart[citation needed]. Originally, both stations had similar schedules, airing the same episode of the same program at the same time. Nowadays, the scheduling is not always the same, due to the fact that Télétoon carries some translated programs that its English counterpart does not, as they are on other cable networks. Many of the shows, such as The Simpsons and King of the Hill, are dubbed using local voice over actors from Quebec, while others, such as Naruto and virtually all series originating from Cartoon Network, are dubbed in France and imported.
Also, unlike the English version, programming during the day is commercial-free (other than for promos); since much of the French Télétoon's audience is in Quebec. Quebec provincial law prohibits paid commercials during children's programming, which is generally the morning and afternoon hours.
[edit] Programming blocks
[edit] Le Spin
Le Spin is airing every weekday from 4-6 p.m. with different shows everyday. Throughout the week viewers can vote online on the Teletoon website to pick one show that will air on Fridays during Spin Cycle. Once a month, five viewers each get to choose the shows for an entire weekday afternoon.
[edit] Télétoon Présente
A block on Saturdays and Sundays that mostly airs animated movies, such as Tom and Jerry: The Movie, Pokémon movies, The Powerpuff Girls Movie, Looney Tunes movies, etc. It also airs live action movies such as the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. Formerly known as Cinétoon.
[edit] Télétoon la Nuit
Animated programming targeted towards teen and adult audiences airs during the Télétoon la Nuit (formerly Télétoon Détour) programming block, the French version of Teletoon at Night (formerly Teletoon Detour), much of which is in the vein of Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. However, unlike Adult Swim, although there was a strong early commitment to air diverse and international programming, as well as the ability to air a great majority of material uncut, Télétoon Détour refused to incorporate a single anime series until March 3, 2008. At this point Naruto, which had previously aired during the children's programming schedule, began airing at 10:30 p.m. every night.
