Târgu Mureș Transilvania Airport (Romanian: Aeroportul Transilvania Târgu Mureș) (IATA: TGM, ICAO: LRTM) is an international airport located 14 km (8.7 mi) southwest[1] of Târgu Mureș, Mureş County, in central Romania. Formerly known as Târgu Mureș Vidrasău Airport (for the locality 17 km (11 mi) outside of Târgu Mureș where it is located), it was renamed Transilvania Airport in May 2006.
Târgu Mureş Airport serves the city of Târgu Mureș as well Mureș, Harghita and Bistrița-Năsăud counties.
History [edit]
Opened in 1936 and modernized in 1969,[4] it provides services for an area of 24,500 km2 (9,500 sq mi), with some 2.6 million inhabitants.
After 2000, the airport has undergone extensive renovation. In October 2005 a new international terminal was opened and Category II instrument landing system was installed, allowing the handling of flights 24 hours a day.
