Nonsense, isn't it currently the year 1006? -Silence 23:06, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
Actually if they were still using the AUC date system it would be 2760AUC. --Wikipedia-logo.png RND  T  C  14:14, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] greek colonization

I'm not sure if the date is right or not, but the greeks definetly did not colonize the canary islands, which are off the coast of west africa, whether traders used it as a stopping point is debateable, but the first european settlement of those islands came much, much later, sometime after the medieval dark ages. So I'm going to remove the canary islands reference. SmjjamesRaptor 21:31, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

actually, I'll just remove that whole piece about the greek colonization. While the Greeks knew the islands existed, any settlement was likely temporary since it was used as a trade outpost, but no evidence of any permanent settlement by anybody else other than the natives of those islands exist.
