seems like a more complete title to me; a noun rather than an adjective. Ditto for passive solar. Citizen Premier 02:15, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

Some in this article such as Solar hot water: are passive technologies. Needs to be looked over by an expert. Thermodynamic systems is meaningless. Lumos3 13:51, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
Solar hot water is an active system. Passive solar heating is the space heating gains which come from having large glazed areas and preferably some sort of mass to store and even out the temperatures. (Boyle, Renewable Energy: Power for a Sustainable Future (2004) Oxford University Press, Oxford)
[edit] Neutrality of summary's final paragraph
The summary's final paragraph is a statement of opinion, which doesn't belong in this article:
Because passive solar systems require no additional energy to operate and therefore have zero operating costs, emit no greenhouse gasses in operation, and can have low maintenance costs, passive solar technologies should be given full consideration.
It is a persuasive argument that tries to convince the reader to use passive solar systems in preference to active solar systems. Firstly, it does not follow the Wikipedia content criterion requiring a neutral point of view. Secondly, as a list of positive properties of passive solar, a neutral version of this statement would be more appropriately located in the Passive solar article. Finally, the last paragraph of an article's summary should ideally conclude the summary, which this statement does not do.

[edit] Differentiation between active and passive solar energies
It seems to me that the differentiation between active and passive solar systems in this article is inaccurate. According to [1] and [2] it relates to the primary purpose of the solar collector. If the primary purpose is solar collection then it is deemed active and if solar collection is only a secondary function (such as a wall) then it is deemed passive. The use of forced convection or conduction for active solar collection is purely incidental as a result of the goal of keeping the active solar collector as small and cheap as possible (forced convection being more efficient)
