The decree of al-Mutawakkil, dated 850, is being reported by al-Tabari (d. 923), and the translation by N. Stillman, as quoted in a more recent work is posted at the website mentioned by DigiBullet, which is credited among External links in the entry. Stillman's translation can be abbreviated and partly paraphrased, because the ninth-century original is available at the website. This is why I have restored this historically useful material.
