[edit] Amateur vs Pro
Is all non-choreographed athletic wrestling considered "amateur wrestling"? Because that's the attitude that this article conveys. I find it odd that professional athletes who compete in Olympic wrestling would still be considered "amateur" wrestlers (I usually think of stuff like mud wrestling as amateur wrestling). I know that the term "pro wrestling" has been appropriated by choreographed wrestling-entertainment, but is there no distinction in the athletic wrestling community between amateurs and professionals like in nearly all other sports? The wrestling article is also unclear about official terminology. It lists all the different styles of wrestling named in this article but never refers to them as "amateur wrestling." And if all non-WWE-style wrestling is considered "amateur wrestling" then this article and the 'wrestling' article should be merged.--Subversive Sound (talk) 00:46, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
[edit] Ah, the joy of "quotes"
Why is international in quotes? Is the "person" who "typed" that part of this "page" unaware that more than one "nation" competes in both freestyle and greco. Such use of quotes is silly, and I will soon remove them unless someone has a good reason not to. Thanks.
I think this page could use some cleaning up. Also, Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestling should have their own pages. Jimmy C. 05:46, 31 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Woman in wrestling
There is a mention of how many wrestling programs are scrapped because there are not enough women playing. This allso reffers to other 'men's sports' such as swimming, track, and golf. As a female wrestler and swimmer myself, I beg to differ. Golf, track, swimming and yes, even wrestling are not men's sports. Men's swimming and Women's swimming teams compete in seprete compititions, but competitive swiming in general is not a men's sport. Thus, I have changed other programs for men like golf, track and swimming are believed to be similiarly affected
to the more appropriate:
It is believed by some that when schools cannot add enough opportunities for women they choose to scrap their wrestling programs (other programs that have a primary target of men, such as golf and men's swimming, are believed to be similarly affected.).--Broken 03:18, 29 October 2005 (UTC)
- you souldn't use "some." Also, it isn't "believed." Rather, it is a statement of fact, and it is clearly documented at a number of schools (due to Title IX). I will look up some sources and change this wording soon. Wikiwikikid (talk) 13:46, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Freestyle wrestling
Although it gets only a passing refrence, if one follows the link to freestyle wrestling it was redirected to Amateur Wrestling. I have taken the liberty of turning freestyle into a stub, allthough my information on Freestyle is limited to what is shown in the amateur wrestling artical.--Akako|☎ 19:06, 4 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Gene Mills
Gene Mills should berecognized as agreat amateur wrestler because he is syracuse universities record holder for most pins in their history and has appeared on an episode of MADE on MTV as a coach.Mattorocker 13:23, 25 March 2005 (UTC)
- Should take quite a bit more than that to make it on there. In fact, the whole list should be moved out of the article to List of famous amateur wrestlers and at most the top few most important wrestlers should be described in paragraph form in this article for their accomplishments. - Taxman Talk 23:38, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Worldwide
Hey. I'm not too familiar with this page or this sport but I come to you with a propostition. At the moment, Venables001 and myself are in a debate about having amateur and freestyle wrestling seperate from professional wrestling. See Wrestling in Australia. I feel that amateur info should be a seperate article to the pro info but we need you help to make it happen. What I am proposing is that this page has a amateur wrestling worldwide section, similar to the one on the professional wrestling one. Yes, it will make for some red links at first but people will expand on this. Besides, amateur and professional wrestling are kept seperate in everything else except Kurt Angle, why should this be any different? Normy 05:26, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Equipment
I added a little information on amateur wrestling equipment. Allthough I do think it's slightly to short. Maybe someone can look into it, and make some ajustments if needed. -Jort227 15:11, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
- I created a page about wrestling singlet's. Maybe someone can take a loot at is (also at it's talk page), and add stuff that might be added :). --Jort227 17:18, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

On the list of illegal moves, says that a figure-four is illegal. I have used this move plenty of times, and won. Is their any source for this move being illegal?BobafettH23
[edit] Beach wrestling removal
Beach wrestling, sad to say, is in fact a recognized international style. Mytildebang 04:07, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

It should noted that pro wrestling came first —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.118.205.43 (talk) 17:28, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
