[edit] "First hand information"

User:Theinfoaddict recently posted what he claims to be the product of a chat between him and Bathgate, and is angry that the edit has now been twice reverted, claiming that we are not interested in first hand information. He is quite right; since Wikipedia is not a publisher of first instance, we cannot accept any such reference, which violates WP:RS, WP:V and WP:NOR:

Wikipedia does not publish original research (OR) or original thought. This includes unpublished facts, arguments, speculation, and ideas; and any unpublished analysis or synthesis of published material that serves to advance a position. This means that Wikipedia is not the place to publish your own opinions or experiences. Citing sources and avoiding original research are inextricably linked: to demonstrate that you are not presenting original research, you must cite reliable sources that provide information directly related to the topic of the article, and that directly support the information as it is presented. (emphasis in the original)

If his conversation was published in a newspaper or a book, then citing it would be acceptable.  Ravenswing  13:22, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

The retirement ceremony has not happened yet. Therefore I changed the tense from future to past. It should be changed once it has been retired.
