Pai Zadora as guest host? Can someone cite the reference for this? I have been unable to confirm this from any official sources yet the reference keeps coming back. So far as I know, Ms. Zadora has never appeared on Coast as a guest, much less as a guest host.
Worker In The Light was written by George Noory, not Art.
was the Area 51 "shootdown" on April 1?
Just reverted edit from anonymous IP (4.228.255.239). Art's first retirement date was set from 2001 to 1998 - is this true? Refs please. Richard Hoaglan was added to famous guest lists - this paragraph explicitly mentions "non-paranormal"-oriented guests. Note that I'm not against the additions and changes per-se, just the quality :) . --NightMonkey 18:56, Nov 27, 2004 (UTC)
Art's son is NOT a public figure and naming him gratutiously in this manner is an invasion of privacy under Nevada state law.
-
- Preposterous. Please give a citation for this claim. Quatloo 01:02, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
Regarding Art's decision to move to the Philippines. With all the bad blood as a result of the circulated hoax Filipino letter, Art is moving to the Philippines in separatist territory controlled by the muslim terrorist group Abu Sayyaf to host a nationally broadcast radio show. Only a matter of time before Art is kidnapped and held hostage by Abu Sayyaf. I for sure will place a bet on (online betting site removed) in regard to Art's latest publicity stunt to get himself killed. The FCC should investigate Clear Channel Radio as willing coconspirators to a bunch of terrorists. Hal
Regarding Heaven's Gate an academic named Courtney Brown Associate Professor of Political Science at Emory University told Art Bell that a scientist dicovered the companion to Hale Bopp. Courtney Brown also explained that he remote viewed the passangers and that the aliens are good natured as opposed to the other kind.
Article states: "Bell is one of only a few talk show hosts who do not screen calls." I'm pretty sure that he does now screen calls. I seem to recall hearing callers refer to the screener lately. Can anyone confirm or deny? kidbritish 02:41, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
- The producer has been taking names ever since the show moved to the Phillipines, and since it came back. Depending on the topic, they may ask what topic the caller wants to talk about, but sometimes they don't. Calwatch 08:02, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Kidnapping
Why has the kidnapping of Art Bell's son been completely removed from this article? It happened, and was one of the reasons he signed off the air. For a bunch of wacko conspirators, you might think that they would find this odd. --Xephael 17:18, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Siegel or Seigel
Which is right? Is it Mike Siegel or Seigel? The red link has one spelling and then about 2 sentences later is the other spelling. Dismas 09:31, 18 May 2005 (UTC)
hey you idiots. get the page fixed! I'm serious.
- fix it yer damn self, that's kinda the point of wikipedia... what are you serious about by the way? --StarkRG 08:56, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Dave Rabbit
I removed this edit by User:Kaibabsquirrel :
Indeed, there has been some speculation whether Art Bell was the pseudonymous "Dave Rabbit" who operated the infamous Radio First Termer pirate station [1] in Saigon, but there has been no confirmation of this from Bell nor anyone else.)
Speculation from who? A personal home page isn't enough. And since there's been no confirmation, then there's no reason for it to be in an encyclopedia. Sorry. If credible sources are found, then we can Talk about it here. --NightMonkey 04:18, July 26, 2005 (UTC)
- The speculation was from the Radio First Termer home page at [2], which I guess is just somebody's personal page and doesn't count as speculation. Several other web sites echo the speculation (example, [3], most of which cite the Radio First Termer home page as their source and so I guess aren't really speculation. Delete it if you want, I don't care at this point. Kaibabsquirrel 06:00, 26 July 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Racist letter?
Filipinos are circulating a racist letter alledgely written by Mr. Bell. - Sparky 22:11, 2 September 2005 (UTC)
This has a whole section in the article already, just look for the big headline. Lambertman 18:55, 11 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Sep 11 1997
Boy that takes me back: I was an overnight board-op at an affiliate station and was rather freaked out when everything went down. :) Anyway, should this section be moved to the Coast to Coast AM article? Seems like it belongs more over there. Lambertman 18:55, 11 September 2005 (UTC)
-Agreed, this would be a great addition.
[edit] Ramona Bell
As a person who never heard of this guy till now, may I ask the following questions:
- Ramona's death is discussed twice in the article, in separate places. Is there a good reason for this?
- But why is she mentioned in his article at all? She is not stated as having contributed to his work. Lots of celebrities have spouses, but unless the spouse does something worthy of note, they do not usually merit any mention in Wikipedia articles.
- And why does she deserve yet another mention, in Deaths in 2006?
If she's notable, let's hear all about it. Otherwise, I suggest removing all references to her. JackofOz 12:18, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
-
- If the mention is a rote duplicate, then it should be removed.
- She co-owned with Art their radio station in Parump, NV. She occasionaly was heard on the air with him. She is the stated reason for his latest retirement (to spend more time with her).
- I dunno if her death should be mentioned in Deaths in 2006, but her death will most certainly call into question whether Art Bell will take a haitus from his show, and how long that might be.
- Art often kept his listeners up-to-date on his household doings, and that means many of his listeners (including those in my household) are deeply saddened for his loss, especially as it appears to be so sudden and unexpected. That being said, I don't know, in this case, if there is a good rejoiner to the question of her "noteability", at least from me. Perhaps someone else can make a grander case? --NightMonkey 17:12, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
-
-
- But that is not stated in our article. There is no connection in the article between Art Bell's work and anything to do with his wife. Either the connection needs to be made, or remove references to her. JackofOz 23:05, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
-
- Ramona Bell was a radio executive (management/producer) and was instrumental in helping Art conceive and develop his show until it's being picked up by Premier Radio, and then later being purchased by Premier. Her contributions behind the scenes are as formitible as Art's are "out there" where we hear it all.
-
- Great. Then please put that information into the article. That will stop people like me asking questions about why her death is mentioned all over the place when there's no other information about her. Cheers. JackofOz 00:28, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
Why does it mention that Art and Romona owned pets and that pets contribute to asthma? Romona could have had acute allergies towards food and other substances, not necessarily towards animals. --Seekskeat 21:25, February 12, 2008 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Seekskeat (talk • contribs) 05:26, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Airyn Ruiz Bell
I'm not sure if it's appropriate for Airyn's name to have "Irene", including quotes, preceeding it. Not to be pedantic, but Art pointed out in his show that her name, Airyn, is pronounced as "Irene" in the Phillipines which would make the addition homonymly redundant. He further pointed out however, that to his mind her name seemed like it should be pronounced as "Erin" which I think is a reasonable assumption to make. Perhaps rather than placing "Irene" before her name (pronounced Irene), including parenthesis would be more appropriate.
Also, I'll be adding the couple to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_relationships_with_age_disparity --Xiaou 21:41, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
-
- Try not to add too much unnecessary detail about these breaking events...theres really plenty as it is. We've got what he's done, his wife's name, his plans to continue hosting, etc. We don't need various pronounciations of the girl's name, descriptions of his new house/ISDN setup, or which specific prized posession he's got up for sale each week. That stuff is best left to fan pages. --72.224.153.104 05:20, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Why is there a section called "Marriages"
Typical biographies do not have such a section. Here it does not add any usful information about Bell. The only marriages that had any impact on Bell's career are the last two. And they are talked about plenty elsewhere in the article. Could the Marriages section just be removed? KarenAnn 13:36, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
-
- You are incorrect when you state that typical biographies do not have such a section. Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor come to mind. I see no problem with the "marriages" section in the Art Bell article, especially since, as you noted yourself, the last two have had an impact on his career. wikipediatrix 16:35, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
-
-
- O.K., but the relevant marriages are covered aplenty in other sections, and it is usually (from on editing standpoint) best to move through an article as smoothly as possible, avoiding redundant material. KarenAnn 03:28, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
-
[edit] Other work
- Art did voice work on the new video game Prey, as himself on a radio broadcast, much like CtC. He even says "Good even ing from the High Desert," and the audio segments featuring his voice work is done in his signature radio host style.
[edit] Early years
I believe that Art was a 911 dispatcher. It would be good to confirm this and add it.
-
- I heard him say that it helped him get out of a traffic ticket. --Kalmia 04:09, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- http://www.reversespeech.com/fuhrman.htm and http://www.rviewer.com/main/AB03-25-1997Transcript.html both refer to Art spending one year as a Monterey County 911 (or police) dispatcher. Perhaps having to judge callers in these life-and-death circumstances influenced his interview style.
[edit] Broken link
Under Broadcasting Career the link http://arnewsline.wb7tjd.org/news1389-2004-03-26.txt doesn't work, at least when I try it. "Server not found" message. GBYork 20:53, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Jr II?
The article state Bell's father as "Arthur Bell, Jr II". Isn't that redundant? Aren't most Juniors only called 'Junior' until they have a son of their own with a shared name, at which time, they re-name themselves 'the Second'? (Likewise, 'Senior' would be just plain 'Arthur Bell', until his son is born, when he becomes 'Senior', then when his identically named grandson is born, he would become 'the First'...) So is his dad 'Junior', or 'the Second'? (I would guess 'the Second', since the subject of this article is 'the Third'.) Ehurtley 20:05, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Neglect of his broadcast quality
There eems to be so much emphasis on trivial aspects in this article, while the (to me) brilliance of his commecial instincts in forming Coast-to-Coast AM as weil as the quality of his broadcasts seems to be neglected. Mattisse(talk) 03:53, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Children
Does anyone know why he talks about his newest child as his only child, and never mentions his son lately? --70.143.52.3 02:23, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Dark Skies
Added information about his appearance on the show Dark Skies, in the Other subsection of the Media section. I am not good at external links and footnotes, but the information is on IMDB, it was in Episode 9. Boomcoach 15:12, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Chopped 'reputation'
I chopped this section on the grounds that usenet, AOL forums and unspecified blogs fail the Reliable Source & Notability tests.
- Some critics see Bell as a charlatan, and some guests have been criticized as cranks or quacks; Coast-to-Coast is subject to frequent ridicule, criticism and mockery on the usenet group alt.fan.art-bell, in the AOL chatroom "Beyond Belief", the Undernet chatroom #coast2coast (among others), and on some blogs.
[edit] Image of Art Bell
OK, I uploaded the image that was present within this article for some time, but has now been deleted as it apparently didn't qualify for Fair Use, as a promotional image of a celebrity, as it was deemed "replaceable" by a free image. (I don't remember if I got it from this site, but here's the old image. So, does anyone have a good quality free image of Art? Cheers! --NightMonkey 00:24, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Awkward Sentence
This article currently contains the sentence:
This is because during their Internet dating Art imprinted the spelling of her name with that pronunciation.
I find this wording extremely awkward and suggest changing it to:
This is because during their Internet dating Art misinterpreted the pronunciation of her name.
Or simply:
This is because during their Internet dating Art mispronounced her name.

- If you can find a statement in a reliable source to establish that, it might well be worthy of inclusion. Nevard (talk) 13:17, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Move back to Manila...
At the time of this post (05-18-09), Bell had once again moved to the Philippines. Does anyone know when this occurred, or why? This info needs to be incorporated into the article.--Batman144 (talk) 19:14, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Obama vote
The following was added to this article:
- Bell has stated he voted for Barack Obama in the 2008 U.S. presidential election.
However, no source was provided. Can we get a source for this please? - Tbsdy lives (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 06:13, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
- Of course the editor who initiated this change will also need to delete the entire “Trivia” section as 21 of 24 statements are unsourced. Coast Fans – you’re better equipped than I to handle this. I’ll unleash you guys on this one. Be nice and AGF. J Nothughthomas (talk) 09:30, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
- That's not a bad idea, I dislike "trivia" sections. - Tbsdy lives (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 10:50, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
- Fair enough. I won't object to the deletion of that section if you do it. Nothughthomas (talk) 10:52, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
- I have moved all the references to calls and guests to a "callers and guests" section, and I moved the other pieces of info into the broadcasting section as these are notable incidents. If you feel that any of the information is unsourced, please feel free to source or remove to the talk page. - Tbsdy lives (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 11:00, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
- Why don't you take that initiative? Why are you being selective in what unsourced statements you removed? A statement that a Washington Post writer - who happens to share a name with a Simpsons animator - had info of a connection between the President of the US and Osama bin Laden seems more necessary of a source than who Art Bell voted for ... I'm concerned why you chose to only remove my contributions and not act in a more consistent manner. Thanks.Nothughthomas (talk) 11:02, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
- As I say, please feel free to remove any information you feel is not referenced correctly. I note that you still haven't provided a reference for the material that you added and that I have removed. - Tbsdy lives (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 11:06, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
- Because I haven't attempted to reinsert it, nor will I until I have a source. Wikipedia is not a race. Why are you only deleting unsourced edits I made? Thank you for clarifying this point. Nothughthomas (talk) 11:08, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
- You are correct, it's not a race. When I find the time and inclination I'll probably start culling material. Or maybe I won't! Where is the source for your material? - Tbsdy lives (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 11:15, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
- For the second time, Wikipedia is not a race. As I said, I will provide a source at the time I reinsert the entry; at such time as I have the time to research one that meets our high standards. In the meantime, please don't cherry-pick no-source deletions from editors you're mad at. Thank you for helping to make wikipedia more harmonious. Nothughthomas (talk) 11:22, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
- Nothughthomas, in the interests of verifiability, you clearly added some material that you must have gotten from somewhere. What was your source? - Tbsdy lives (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 11:28, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
- The subject of this entry said it in a radio statement. Obviously this can't be cited in a way that would meet your auditing standards. For that reason I will have to seek out an alternate sourcing method. It may be a few days before I have time to do this. Please AGF and don't cherry-pick no-source deletions from editors you're mad at. Thank you for helping to make wikipedia more harmonious. Nothughthomas (talk) 11:46, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
- Actually I think I can remember Art saying he voted for Obama aswell; i happened to have heard it on YouTube. Once you've got the date of the show just use this template Template:Cite_episode. It's OK to cite radio/tv/videos etc., no worries.--Brianann MacAmhlaidh (talk) 09:40, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
- You can in fact note that it was said on the radio show, and you can at least give the date that it was said. It would also be advisable to fully quote Art Bell so we know what he said. - Tbsdy lives (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 11:49, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
- I would rather wait to be able to cite a source that is verifiable and will better withstand scrutiny. Because Wikipedia is not a race I'm willing to wait until I have a few minutes to do that. - Certainly, finding a more reliable source sounds for the best. When you do, most certainly readd this material. In future, however, please ensure that you have a verifiable and reliable source before you add material such as this. - Tbsdy lives (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 12:00, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
- Please be consistent in edits and don't cherry-pick no-source deletions just because you are angered with a user over a noticeboard complaint filed against you. It disrupts the entry. Thanks. Nothughthomas (talk) 12:03, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

- There are 29 unsourced statements here. You removed one. The one I made. Then you aggressively engaged me on it in a virtual inquisition style of questioning. Your deletion of my edit and request for citation was justified. The way you followed me from entry to entry and - in this case - cherry picked one - does not demonstrate good faith in wikipedia. It demonstrates an axe to grind. We both know what's going on here. Please, I promise I won't ever cross you again. Please just leave me alone. Nothughthomas (talk) 12:28, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
- "Inquisitorial" is going a bit far I feel. I didn't torture you, or compel you to answer the questions against your will. I did so even though you saw fit to try to change the topic itself, which was that I had removed an unsourced statement that you had added. I stayed on point here, and eventually you provided a reasonable answer. Nothing I have done here is unreasonable in any way, and the ultimate outcome was that you answered my question. Nothing that happened here seems very radical or out of the ordinary to me! - Tbsdy lives (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 12:32, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
- Tbsdy - once again, I will not engage you in any discussion in any entry any longer. Please. I don't know what else to say to you. Within minutes of me posting a noticeboard complaint against you began following me from entry to entry, engaging me in a very aggressive manner. I know this is a virtual environment but I'm a real human being. I deserve to be treated like one. Please stop doing this to me. Nothughthomas (talk) 12:37, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Kidnapping
Why has reference to the kidnapping of Art Bell's son been removed from this article? I started reading about it a few weeks ago and came back to read what happened. I cannot understand how this article could provide so much information on strangeness associated with this man (accusations, etc) yet not include one of the most valid and terrifying experiences of his life. Can someone with the know-how (I dont know how) restore this information? Thank you. 24.188.207.20 (talk) 00:00, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
- I just read up on this through other sources and would like to retract this as what happened is the Bell Family's private business involving a minor and, as such, has no place here. 24.188.207.20 (talk) 02:32, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Facebook
There's some talk under Events of 2010-11 that he's posting on a Facebook. I can't seem to find an Art Bell account that backs this information up, can we get a link to Art Bell's Facebook with the alleged posts? Hukt own fonikz (talk) 15:32, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
