[edit] Sections?
The articles looks like a large blob of information. We need to divide it up into suitable sections. - 17 Feb, 2005
[edit] Nomenclature and other things.
I have been enlisted by Zora to start making edits - hello all! Do talk to me on my discussion pages as well to work on articles elsewhere.
First things first - it's more encyclopaedic and Wikiform to refer to Asha as Bhosle for the purposes of the article. Remember that Wikipedia pages aren't intended to be a repository for fan sites ;o). Please understand those changes as they are brought in. I will be dropping in every now and again to amalgamate sections and to prune others. I need to get my head around just how compendious we need to get! Will be joining in the superhuman efforts of utcursch Autumnleaf 14:57, 13 November 2005 (UTC)
- Hello Autumnleaf! I saw your edits - really good. You can help clean-up the article. Regarding the nomenclature, I think it's doesn't look right to refer to Asha Bhosle as "Bhosle". But you are right too - it's not proper to call her "Asha" either. So, I think we should simply call her "Asha Bhosle" throughout the article - this might mean an increase of few bytes. utcursch | talk 05:57, 25 November 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for your feedback; really helpful. I guess I went for the classic 'last name' approach as that is the universal custom and these pages are intended as much for the disinterested as they are for those who have heard of her. It is not disrespectful this convention! ML King gets called King after all. Autumnleaf 22:52, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
- Interesting discussion, this one. Also, we have a convention on Wikipedia where we use British English for UK and India-related articles and American English for US-related articles. Similarly, since newspapers like The Hindu, magazines like India Today and websites like rediff.com do not use the classic "last name" approach but use first name (e.g. Asha), we should probably follow that. There was a slightly related discussion taking place at Wikipedia_talk:Notice_board_for_India-related_topics/archive4#Adding_an_article_to_a_category. I believe that WP:INWNB and its talkpage should be the right place to discuss these; otherwise, others may end up re-inventing the wheel and having similar discussions on talkpages of other articles. Pl. consider this as just a suggestion, though. --Gurubrahma 05:28, 30 November 2005 (UTC)
- I had a look at the discussion . Actually I am not concerned about the general firstname-lastname issue. But for this particular article, calling Ashaji "Bhosle" looks a bit odd - especially, since her husband treated her so badly. Also, she has been always identified as a part of the Mangeshkar family. To an Indian reader, it would look odd if we say "Bhosle's husband was R D Burman" or "Bhosle has collaborated with many foreign artists". But then, I guess people from other part of the world might find it disrespectful to refer Ashaji by her first name. Usually, in English articles about her, she is referred to as "Ashaji", but that doesn't look encyclopedic. So, I would say, let's just call her "Asha Bhosle" throughout the article. utcursch | talk 08:48, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Some revision
I started by correcting one egregious bit of "Hinglish" and ended up rewriting the first part of the article. Then I scrolled down and realized that I had barely scratched the surface. This article is a MESS. It's repetitive, badly written, disorganized, and replete with fancruft. We need to cleanly separate out the personal life from the professional achievements, for one thing. Will do more as I have time. Zora 11:03, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
- I've removed some fancruft/POV added by 203.200.40.194 earlier. utcursch | talk 07:42, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
I do not know whether this is the proper place to suggest, I believe a section about Asha's Marathi songs should be included in this article, unfortunately I am not competent to add it.

This article was nominated for deletion. I've unilateraly speedy kept it in my typically arrogant and "what the fuck?" manner. Rob Church (talk) 14:46, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Bhosle or Bhonse
Isn't Bhonsle a more common spelling for her name? Asha Bhonsle has about 100 thousand more results than Asha Bhosle. Mar de Sin Speak up! 01:57, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- There is no standard translation scheme for Indian names to English. Since, her IMDB entry calls her "Asha Bhosle", the Wikipedia article about her is located at Asha Bhosle. The note Asha_Bhosle#_note-0 states the alternative spellings. By the way, which search engine did you use? Google returns more results for "Asha Bhosle" than "Asha Bhonsle":
- Asha Bhosle: 813,000 results
- Asha Bhonsle: 85,400 results
- utcursch | talk 03:24, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- I used google, I just didn't put the "quotes". I know that many sources use "Bhosle", but I'm pretty sure most Indian music sites use "Bhonsle" (Raaga, Smashits, etc.)
I think "Bhonsle" deserves at least some mentioning on this article.Thanks. Mar de Sin Speak up! 02:00, 27 October 2006 (UTC)- I completely missed the note, sorry! Mar de Sin Speak up! 02:01, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Contains significant amounts of material plagiarized from Wikipedia articles. (Some other books from the same publisher also have this problem). There is no practical way of determining which material came from Wikipedia, and which came from other sources. Further, widespread plagiarism is an indication of poor scholarship. For those reasons, and according to Wikipedia policy, WP:CIRCULAR, I will deleting all citations to the book. [edit] Mentioning Caste
Dear Editors!
There has been a discussion on India Portal related to mentioning of caste of subjects. The point is that mentioning caste of people, who have nothing to do with their caste, is found to be unnecessary by few editors. Hence the caste of the subject person needs to be deleted from the biography. I am not deleting the caste as of now but am only posting this here so that the regular editors of this article are well aware of it beforehand and no edit-wars take place. For details of discussion held on the portal please refer Wikipedia_talk:Noticeboard_for_India-related_topics#Mentioning_caste_of_Individuals. Your views if any are welcome there or even here.
And.... as the reasons of exclusion of caste pointed out were "irrelavant to notability of subject person", "privacy of the subject person", "inclusion of caste is like branding individuals", etc. other information included in the article which also fall under these cases will also be removed after discussions. Examples of it included religion, non-notable spouse's and children's and parents' information, previous occupation, lived in places, non-notability related educational qualification, etc.
Your views on this are also welcome here or at the India portal. -Animeshkulkarni (talk) 16:56, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
- Not here, please. There is a community discussion taking place at WT:INB and I would advise people to read the entire discussion before forming an opinion because the above summary is incorrect. Nothing more need be said here. - Sitush (talk) 02:20, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
