[edit] The Name
It is not Baile Atha an Ri, or Beal (!!!!) Ath an Ri; it is simply Ath an Ri. So with that in mind I am editing a little. Fergananim
According to Aimnmeacha Gaeilge na mBailte Poist (BAC, Oifig an tSolathair) 1969 p 1 the official name is actually Baile Átha an Rí Zymurgy
Thanks for this - at least some attempt is made to help with pronounciation - most English speakers would guess at A-thin-ri (the ri as in rid) and not Athen-rai (the rai as in RIGHT. Similar help would be useful for non-Irish users regarding Ballinasloe and Tuam (which apparently is pronounced as Choom). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.13.62.44 (talk) 21:29, 19 October 2009 (UTC)
[edit] "Notable" natives
This list has several problems. Lots of its members would seem to be questionable in terms of WP:BIO. It would seem reasonable to include people who are verifyably from Athenry, and who meet NN to the extent that they have an article about them. But other people (webmasters, "battle participants", schoolteachers, etc) would seem to fail WP:BIO and so may not be appropriate for inclusion. As with similar lists which include "notable people from X", members should have either: an article about them OR references demonstrating "significant coverage". If neither exist they should be deleted as failing WP:NN and WP:VER. Guliolopez (talk) 11:43, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
