Talk:Basilica di Santa Maria in Trastevere
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A re-edit has given us this:
- It was probably built in the early fourth century although, since the church was one of the tituli, the parish churches of Late Antiquity. In those times the basilica was known as Titulus Callisti, since a legend had it founded by Pope Callixtus I, (died 222), whose remains are buried under the altar.
Perhaps someone who understands that the church is 4th century, but with the reputation of being earlier, for the reasons given, can re-revise this. Too bad the article has to have its illustrations reduced to identical size and lined along the edge like a stamp collector's album. It's not worth one's time to upload 18th century engravings, really, is it? --Wetman 10:53, 16 September 2005 (UTC)
