[edit] Relation to Effect of Hurricane Katrina on New Orleans

This should be the main article on civil disturbances and the resulting military action. Material form that page under "Civil disturbances" should be copied to this article and expanded.

[edit] Naming

This page could also be called "Civil disturbances and military action in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina".

In my opinion, this article title is not supported by Wikipedia:Naming conventions (the content should be moved to a more suitable article and this one deleted). To call this a "battle" is a bit of a stretch and creates an uncalled-for parallel to other pitched battles with that name. The suggested name above seems more appropriate (if a bit lengthy). [edit] Military action

Emhasis should be on the military responce to the civil unrest. We are not really interested in the doings of a few hundred rag theves and looters but in the possibly overkill response of the US military and Homeland Security in the post 9/11 environment.

[edit] Merger discussion

This is in reponse to the request for merging information from Effect of Hurricane Katrina on New Orleans. At the moment, I do not see any reason for merging the articles. If anything, I think calling it a battle at this point is an overreaction. Furthermore, I find it a gross oversimplification to characterize the forced evacuation as a "conflict between social classes" as the people remaining in the city range from the well to do (in the French Quarter) to impoverished residents elsewhere. -Loren 01:57, 11 September 2005 (UTC)

I agree. That section of Effect of Hurricane Katrina on New Orleans has been moved to Civil disturbances and military action in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina after merger with another article. I'll start merging this article there while de-battle-izing it. -- Beland 03:30, 11 September 2005 (UTC)
