[edit] Writing
This article was the Canadian Collaboration of the Month for August 2005 but was replaced with Michaëlle Jean a week into August.
I have done extensive re-writing and writing of this article. The sources I used are found in the external links but there were many more smaller (off topic) ones that are not listed, too. The article can still be improved. Specifically, I could not find copies of the 1957 or 1966 (Medical Care) acts. I'm not actually sure which one sets the 50% funding formula and which just allows for negotiation with the province for transfer payments. maclean25 05:43, 11 August 2005 (UTC)

- Hey JR, nice expansion! I haven't gotten around to working at this yet and probably won't till at least next week but I'll have a look then. DoubleBlue (Talk) 06:00, 11 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Constitution
Canada doesn't have a constitution, they have a charter of rights.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.57.187.74 (talk • contribs)
- Ahem: Constitution of Canada, Constitution Act, 1982. (In a nutshell, the constitution includes the Charter of Rights and Freedoms among other specifications.) Mindmatrix 16:46, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Corrections
I did some editing here, but apologize for the problems I'm having with getting the references in properly. Note that the page had some factual errors, particularly the confusion between financing and delivery. Some of the material might make more sense on the Canadian medicare page? I'll try to do more when I get a chance. R2SBD (talk) 19:54, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
- I wrote most of the article in Aug 2005 based mostly on this overview. Feel free to structure this article or move content to another article as you see fit. --maclean 04:58, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for your gracious remarks, and for helping fix up the references! What do you think of my changes? Do you think we need the full details about amounts withheld, or should it just reference the Canada Health Act reports? Should there be a bit about challenges to the Canada Health Act? Thanks.R2SBD (talk) 23:55, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
- Your contributions have been great. I put in the full details about amounts withheld for a sense of scale on how much money we are talking about. A section on challenges would be beneficial to the article's comprehensiveness. maclean 02:27, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] recent court decision?
I understand there was recently a very important Canadian high court decision which bears on the question of when and how fees can be charged to patients. I see no mention of this in the article; is it an oversight? 148.87.1.170 (talk) 20:20, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
- The article hasn't been updated in over a year. Which court decision are you referring to? -maclean 21:09, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
I think you are referring to the Chaoulli decision. It does not deal with fees, but with the ability to purchase private insurance for insured services if wait times are deemed unreasonable. Strictly speaking, it applies only to Quebec legislation, not to the Canada Health Act per se. In my view, it is somewhat peripheral to this entry, but a link to the existing page - Chaoulli v. Quebec (Attorney General) - could be added if desired.R2SBD (talk) 19:57, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Classification
For my curiosity, why is this classified C? In my view, it is now quite accurate. What needs to be done to up the quality rating?R2SBD (talk) 20:00, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Controversy
The entire fourth para should be moved to a new section titled "Controversies." It does not belong in the intro. It sounds like it was written for an advocate of privatized health care. QuinnHK (talk) 09:42, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
