History

I'm a little confused/surprised with the Canadian origin - at some point the UK drink Carling (Black Label) was owned by Bass, then sold off to Coors when Interbrew bought it in 2000, as detailed on the Bass page. Two Carlings?? or has ownership passed over the Atlantic more than once? Paulbrock 00:26, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Carling in the U.S.

Poor Lay-out

Not only is the page poorly laid out, it is poorly written. It repeats itself, and in several places sounds like it was written by Molson Coors marketing people. It gives little in the way of history, ie, how did it come to be that it became well-known in the "former British Empire", and when. In Canada it was for a long time a very minor brand, considered a niche market for old men (as was Red Cap, which was originally brewed by Carling too) when all of a sudden it became hip. It was one of those things where everyone started drinking it because nobody had been drinking it. Thirty years ago, you'd be hard-pressed to find a bar in Canada that carried it. carling festival reading and leeds UK

until 2007 carling was the sponsor and title head of the twin music festivals in Britain, the Leeds branch ran i think from 1999, but reading has been going since the 70s, although i assume the carling sponsorship is more recent. I'm fairly sure that carling at least sponsored Leeds from the start, and they were known officially, as the Carling weekend, Reading/Leeds, it may be worth including this as it seems a notable point in the companies history. sorry i have no real idea of how to put together a piece so I'll let someone else do it, as it needs research. hope this helps.

Merger proposal

Black Label

The Black Label article is about exactly the same topic, and this article seems like the right place to put the info to me: the brand is called "Carling" in the UK, and "Carling Black Label" in some other places. --Slashme (talk) 14:16, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

• Agree. But there are several "Carling" brands (see revision history - this info should be restored), so the intro should not make Black Label the primary focus. Carling O'Keefe

I'm not sure about whether this article should be merged: the one is about a brewery, the other is about a brand owned by a different company. --Slashme (talk) 14:16, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

• Oppose - the Carling article is about the Molson brand, once owned by Carling O'Keefe, but they made many other beer brands as well.
