[edit] Cyllene the nymph

An oread, makes sense. But two-thirds of the sources have her a Naiad instead (e.g. http://homepage.mac.com/cparada/GML/Lycaon2.html). She was the mother (or spouse) of Lycaon, king of Arcadia, by Pelasgus (yet other authors have Lycaon's mother as Meliboea or Dejanira). Note that the Pleiade Maia dwelt in a cave on Mount Kyllene, and there she had many a secret encounter with Zeus and bore him the god Hermes.

[edit] pronunciation

Robert Fagle's translation of the Iliad, along with Morford & Lenardon's Classical Mythology and Tripp's Meridian Handbook of Classical Mythology, have si-lee'-nee. However, Fagle's Odyssey has sye-lee'-nee. --kwami 02:46, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)
