Metrowest Medical Center

The article calls it "Framingham's Metrowest Medical Center", but it is Natick and Framingham's. There were two hospitals -- Leonard Morse, in Natick, and Framingham Union, in Framingham. Leonard Morse was owned, by the will of Mary Ann Morse, by the townspeople of Natick. Through much skullduggery (why would you say we in Natick are still bitter?!), the will was broken, and the two hospitals were merged, and bought by a company. They became "Metrowest Medical Center, Leonard Morse Campus", and "Metrowest Medical Center, Framingham Union Campus". I've edited the article just to change it to "Natick/Framingham's Metrowest Medical Center".

red t-shirt

Can anyone add a sentence or two on the red t-shirt that Doug always wears under his football uniform?

I don't know if it is related - but Doug Flutie grew up in Natick, Massachusetts and graduated from Natick High School. Natick High School's team name is the Redmen and the town slogan is, "home of champions" - of which Doug Flutie is just one. Nonetheless, all this is to say that Natick's color is red - so perhaps this is an old high school jersey.

I had seen one of these "human interest" type stories quite a few years ago about doug and the t-shirt that went something like: it was his older brother's high school shirt, and his brother died in an auto accident, so Doug wears it every game to remember him. But I can't find any evidence to back up my story. That is erroneus, Doug did not lose an older brother. I clarified this in the article. It's true that BC nominated Flutie for the Rhodes, but he was not named a Rhodes finalist. A school can name anyone they want, but his candidacy did not go beyond that.

i think it's a little too early to say that the Patriots' last regular season game this year is the last game of his professional career. first of all, I haven't heard him say that he's retiring, and second, the patriots are in the playoffs, and if anything happens to Tom Brady, as far as I know, Flutie will be playing, since he is the backup QB.--Alhutch 22:05, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

What?? Flute #10 ?? He should be higher than that. I was hoping I would see a mention of Tracy Ham (how many QB's in the NFL lead the league in rushing) or Damon Allen in the top 10. uh, "Caucasian" ?

I don't know what the Wikipedia policy on this is, but is the quaint term "Caucasian" standard usage here to refer to a white person? Would "white player" be objectionable? "Caucasian" carries a more than a whiff of dated racial pseudo-scientism, imo, and it's fading fast in ordinary usage, at least in North America.

I Protest

I don't race should have anything to do with football awards. describing him as white is not needed. Why don't we say he was the first brown eyed player to win it in five years, for instance?

I agree that race should not be mentioned since he is white. However, note that nearly every time a black person is the "first" to win whatever (or puerto-rican or whatever) it is mentioned in Wikipedia. There is an inconsistency here. People will say it's okay for "minorities" to do this, but separately claim that we are about to become a nation of minorities. The article is fine with me without the mention, but this needs to be discussed in a higher context in Wikipedia. Either "firsts" or other uniquenesses are mentioned for everybody or they aren't. If they aren't, this is going to eliminate a lot of "first black attendees" category (for example). Student7 14:05, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Flutie Pass, Natick Mall, Natick (or Framingham), MA

I'm not a local so I don't have all the details but I hope others can make this "article worthy". Just behind the Natick Mall (in Natick or Framingham, MA), is a little connector road called "Flutie Pass". It is kind of a little passageway from the Natick Mall to the next mall to the west which I think is called "Shoppers World". For those of you who know the little traffic circle behind the mall, the east-side road is Natick Mall Road, the north-south road is Dean Road and the road west to Shoppers World is Flutie Pass. (And remember: traffic already IN the circle has the right of way. If you're IN the circle, keep driving, don't stop. If you're approaching the circle, yield to the cars IN the circle and enter when traffic is clear.)

To help others find Flutie Pass:

1. maps.yahoo.com doesn't find Flutie Pass, so enter "1350 Worcester Rd., Natick, MA" (Worcester Rd. is better known to locals as Route 9). Zoom in and you can see the next road to the north is "Flutie Pass". You might also see "Natick Mall" as a big splotch along Route 9.
2. maps.google.com does find "1 Flutie Pass, Framingham, MA", so that's easy. Here's the google link.
3. Here's the movie theater at 22A Flutie Pass, via MapQuest.

Hail Flutie, Flutie Effect, Flutie Flakes, etc. have their own entries. Do you think "Flutie Pass" deserves an entry as some sort of Civil Engineering / Traffic Management / Doug Flutie thing? Oldest player to score a touchdown

This fact is incorrect. I have found at least two players that were older than Flutie that scored a touchdown. Warren Moon scored a touchdown at the age of 43 years and 338 days in 2000. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/M/MoonWa00/gamelog//

This record obviously belongs to Blanda as no one else played to the age of 47 except kicker Morten Anderson, who obviously did not score a touchdown that season (2007)

Bobby Marshall played two games in 1925 and may have scored a touchdown but records are incomplete from those days. He turned 45 that year.
