I have removed some non-encyclopedic material like lengthy, unverified ghost stories and links to gag websites. Wachholder0 15:10, 16 December 2005 (UTC)
By Alum user:Kenallen: The story of a haunted women's dorm named Pemberton Hall is a legitmate part of what is commonly known by those who attend or work for the University.
[edit] Alumni list
Yes, John Malkovich attended Eastern. See [1], [2], [3], and the John Malkovich article. Do not delete.
Tony Romo was listed twice, under alumni and notable athletes. Ender7771 (talk) 01:09, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
I'm not sure why Malkovich was deleted from the list. Is it because he didn't graduate, and transferred to another school? The dictionary lists "alumni" as someone who "graduated OR attended". On that rationale, I added actor William Phipps to the list. He attended for two years from 1939-1941, and the university gave him an honorary doctorate a few years ago [4]. --Lvillealumni (talk) 15:27, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
Wasn't Burl Ives an alumnus--or at least an "attendee"--of EIU [user: bullbobeiu] — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bullbobeiu (talk • contribs) 18:04, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
John Malkovich and Burl Ives are NOT Alumni of the school. American Heritage Dictionary is clear that Alumni are GRADUATES. Leave them off unless the OED says otherwise. I am an alumnus of EIU and the two of them are not considered such. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.0.139.105 (talk) 20:27, 27 September 2011 (UTC)
[edit] ===========
From the Oxford English Dictionary:
alumnus, n. -- The nurseling or pupil of any school, university, or other seat of learning. Also, a graduate or former student (chiefly U.S., esp. in pl.).

So, Malkovich certainly qualifies, per the OED. One doesn't necessarily have to have graduated, and EIU does officially claim him as one (per the Alumni Wall in the MLK Student Union, right next to the Grand Ballroom). --139.67.224.57 (talk) 04:55, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
- That is really funny, because I have checked "complete" lists of Eastern Illinois University Alumni and neither Anthony Mertz nor Justin Boulay are listed. Apparently, if you are a famous actor, you can get listed without ever graduating, but if you are a murder they will need to see a diploma before you can get on the list. -- 74.0.139.105 (talk) 00:21, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
[edit] High school grades
I have reverted the extraordinary claim that this school did not look at high school grades as a criteria for admission. I am challenging this assertion, and request that a reliable source be cited to confirm this. Popular or not, if it is cited, it should stay in, if uncited, it should be removed.
