Talk:Elections in 2004
(Some of) these can be pulled from List of elections (at the moment) as the latest election in each country. The 2004 page has a link here. user:Btljs
I think the title should be changed to "Primary Elections in 2004." PenPen 00:52, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)
"Primary Elections in 2004" – {Or something to the similar effect. The old title suggests of every single election that was held in 2004, which is unwieldy.} -- PenPen 00:57, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Comment Perhaps National elections in 2004, following the wording of the article itself? Alai 05:37, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- There are people that objects to the use of the word "National". Primary, in this case, is a more NPOV wording for it. Penwhale
- I don't understand the objection to 'national', can you explain? 'Primary election' is not a phrase typically used in many, if not most of these countries, and certainly not ever in, for example, Ireland. And if it's unacceptably POV, why is it the primary descriptor in the article? Alai 19:59, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- National elections could be generalized to mean "General elections" which is not the focus of this article. :) Penwhale 20:50, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)

- Comment "Primary election" implies the ballot to select candidates. The phrase is best left out of the eventual title. Timrollpickering 18:37, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- I suppose. Would "Presidential election" be better? Penwhale
- Several of the countries concerned don't have presidential elections; even in those that do, would have their national/general elections listed on such pages too. (Again using Ireland as an example, the "presidential election" (or in this case, lack of one) elects the (largely ceremonial) president, the "general election" elects the government.) - Comment: "Major elections in 2004"? violet/riga (t) 18:58, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Basically, we've arrived at a point where we know it should be moved, but do not know where to move it. "National election" doesn't work because it is not specific enough; we're back to the drawing board. Penwhale 20:48, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- I'd have to disagree. I wouldn't object to a move to "National elections" or "General elections" (still don't understand the problem, I may just be sleepy tonight...), but I'd rather it stay where it is than the proposed move. "Major", "Principal" or "Significant" I could just about stand, but they're more POV than "national" or "general". People are almost bound to disagree on what's "major", whereas "national" or "general" is at least definable. Alai 22:17, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Leave as is It's already in a sensible place - I doubt anyone reading this will expect to see my local parish council by-election on this list! jguk 23:31, 7 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Oppose Due to the lack of a suitable alternative title proposition, and the basic reasonableness of the current title. Alai 05:25, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Not moved. violet/riga (t) 17:26, 14 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Comment On the 2004 page, it says there were 73 elections and it links to here. I would expect there to be all 73.
- Not anymore...and I'd consider it a problem with the2004 page if it were still the case. Also: the proposal above was not accepted, for the sake of clarity, new topics or proposals should be added in a new section. -Pete 00:18, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure what the original concer was that caused this article to be flagged. In my opinion, a brief introductory paragraph is all the article lacks. Thoughts? -Pete 00:19, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Can-pol w.jpg
Image:Can-pol w.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
