An American sitcom-by-numbers that's thought, by many, to be the nadir of commercial television. It was nearly cancelled early on, but was saved by the addition of a character named Urkel. The good news is: there's no more first-run episodes. The bad news: surely there will be a new hit sitcom that's worse. Kill your television.
- Eh, it was harmless; it was only on Friday nights to cater to the kiddies and their poor parents. Mike H 16:42, Jul 18, 2004 (UTC)
-
- Poor parents? I hope you don't mean financially, as I lived (will be living again) in the richest ZIP code in Las Vegas, NV, amongst the town's/state's power elite and their children and we all grew up with this show and ABC's TGIF line-up. BratmanGodzilla (talk) 15:30, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
- ¿African american? Is any of them born in africa?
-
- What' your point?? Ben Affleck is Irish American, yet he wasn't born in Ireland.
-
-
- Tread lightly, as it's a point of offense for many people to see themselves as either Black Americans or African-Americans, or be it anything else, say a European America, Korean American, etc., etc. BratmanGodzilla (talk) 15:30, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Laura's boyfriend Derek
I need help finding out info about one of Laura's old boyfriends, Derek. --User:Angie Y.
[edit] Harriette Winslow
I requested a citation for the portion of the article that says that actress Jo Marie Payton-Noble was not in the series finale as a NASA worker. I just saw the episode recently on ABC Family and it looks so much like her and imdb has her listed in the episode. [1] Jbm867 07:16, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Grandmama
Was Grandmama as Larry Johnson or their grandma? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.175.138.202 (talk • contribs)
- Larry Johnson. They're grandmother was Mother Winslow (Rosetta LeNoire). Chalkieperfect 03:28, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Kimmy Gibbler
What is this supposed "speculation" about Kimmy Gibbler being invented as an analogue to Urkel. That is blatantly and demonstrably false, as Kimmy Gibbler existed from the first season of Full House onward. Family Matters didn't even premiere until TWO YEARS LATER, so it's inconceivable that Kimmy was invented based on his popularity. I'm deleting it. Chalkieperfect 03:38, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Eddie
I thought that it was Edward James Arthur Winslow, not Edward Arthur James Winslow. Emperor001 18:02, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
You are right. The proof comes from the episode in which Eddie and Steve are caught gambling.Dshibshm (talk) 22:20, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Talk page guidelines
Remember not to use the talk page as a general forum for discussion. It should be used only to discuss changes/improvements to the Family Matters article.
Since it takes up a large portion of the article, I am going to move the character list to a separate page. Citadel18080 03:49, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
I've found the separate list for recurring characters. I'm going to see if I can't get that renamed or integrated into a more general character list. Citadel18080 03:54, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Goof Section
The only "goof" referenced is that Palm trees can't be in Chicago. Now, naturally, they would never survive with the cold and windy climate in Chicago, but a Palm tree can be stored in cold climate areas, with the use of a cover, etc.
I know this from first hand, a neighbor in my town in New Jersey owns a Palm tree, and keeps it under a cover during the cold seasons, such as winter and sometimes fall. The tree is fed with plant feeder and is normally watered.
- Both you, please sign you're states next time. Also, I've seen palm trees do the strangest things. Hiking in Nevada, the occasional palm tree can be found in the wild in mountains and stuff where it gets very cold. Others in the middle of the desert, etc. However, I do think it unlikely people would plant palm trees as common in Chicago. Also, can you specify the episode(s) palm trees appear in? [edit] ABC Family
How come the Deck the Malls episode didn't air on ABC Family? It went from Original Gangster Dawg to the Japanese one

[edit] Set In The Same TV Universe?
Can someone tell me how Family Matters and Boy Meets World are set in the same universe? I used to be a big fan of BMW, but I don't recall anything that would show the two are set in the same universe.--JustinMullins 02:13, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
This has always bothered me ... if Family Matters is in the same TV universe as Full House and Step By Step, that means that Full House and Step By Step are in the same TV universe. But in one episode of Step By Step, I don't know the name, Cody is trying to use some mental trick to figure something out, where he says a random word which leads him to another word that is equally random but related to the previous word. I think he was had gotten to poker hands and he eventually got to "Full House" and the next line was "little Michelle." How can he be aware of Full House as a TV show if he's living in the same TV universe? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.81.172.135 (talk) 02:04, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
- Word of advice: Don't take entertainment so seriously. It's just made for money. BratmanGodzilla (talk) 15:33, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
[edit] Not airing in ABC Family?
I've noticed that this show isn't airing in ABC family. Anyone else notice? 69.247.244.94 (talk) 13:31, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] In-universe information
Some of the infobox material - birthdate, age, nicknames, occupations - on the main characters' individual pages (Carl, Laura, etc.) should be removed, because it's in-universe information about fictional characters. Beemer69 00:29, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Releases
Has this series been released at all on home video (VHS) or DVD boxset ? RingtailedFox • Talk • Contribs 21:13, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
[edit] DVD Release
Someone added a DVD section to the article, claiming the show has been released on DVD. The claim was "referenced" by a link to a website selling bootleg copies of TV shows. As far as I know, the show hasn't been released on DVD, just take a look at Amazon, you won't find any Family Matters released over there. # Ido50 (talk to me), at 22:17, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
- Watching the season one DVD right now as I write this. BratmanGodzilla (talk) 15:34, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
- Warner Home Video released an official DVD set of Family Matters - The Complete First Season on June 8, 2010. The studio's full press release and box art for this title can be found here. 98.66.10.114 (talk) 11:49, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
[edit] boy meets world crossover
I think the line saying that they "crossed over" with boy meets world should be removed. Just because he said he had a penpal named Cory Matthews doesn't mean it was the same person on boy meets world, unless of course it was foreshadowing on the writers part. But still, even if it was foreshadowing, it technically wasn't a crossover. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.192.250.56 (talk) 02:15, 19 March 2010 (UTC)
- Actually, I agree with this opinion. Crash Underride 10:46, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
- In one episode of Family Matters, I believe in the tag scene, Steve receives a chain letter and says he'll send it to his friend Cory Mathews. In an episode of Boy Meets World, Cory states that he receives a chain letter from his friend Steve. 68.89.91.249 (talk) 08:21, 20 June 2010 (UTC)
