Untitled[edit]

If anyone has official documents with the branch names, that would be great. I've found very few sources for them. The only one I can be relatively sure about is the Mayport Branch, shown on a USGS topo, and probably the Moultrie Cutoff, mentioned by name on railfan sites.

The following names are given in the FRA grade crossing data. I'd prefer to have historic names though, and mention the current names in the text. --SPUI 17:17, 6 Dec 2004 (UTC)

  • Cape Ry - the spur to NASA
  • Cidco Park Lead/Spur - west from the mainline just north of SR 528 in Cocoa
  • Dodge Island Spur - the end of the main line in Miami
  • Edgewater - Edgewater to Edgewater Jct
  • Fort Pierce-Lake Harbor Branch
  • Kennedy & Cohen - somewhere in Miami
  • Lehigh Portland - somewhere in Bunnell
  • Lewis Terminal Spur - the northern connector to CSX in Riviera Beach
  • Market Spur - somewhere in Ft Pierce
  • Medley Lead - somewhere in Medley
  • Palatka Branch - St Augustine to Palatka
  • PEGL - somewhere in Ft Lauderdale
  • Sears Lead Track - somewhere in Pompano Beach
  • Airport Spur - somewhere in Melbourne

References and contacts[edit]

I've just reverted an anonymous edit from someone who changed the reference that was listed on the article. I used the reference listed, Last Train to Paradise, to verify some of the basic facts in the article when I first read the article. Therefore, it is a reference that was consulted for this article, and should be listed in the references section. If another reference was used for the same purposes, then by all means add a line for it, but don't remove the existing reference.

The second part of the edit was contact information for a specific person. I don't think that kind of information belongs on the article page. It's welcome here in the Talk page, but it doesn't seem appropriate for the article itself. slambo 19:36, Apr 2, 2005 (UTC)

I received an email reply from the editor who made the anonymous edits that states:
Speedway to Sunshine: The Story of the Florida East Coast Railway, is the OFFICIAL history of the FEC.
"the other book" has numerous errors and is a "historical novel." If you wish to leave it in, that is fine, and if you wish to remove my email, that is also fine, but for accuracy, I think and believe you should reinstate the information on "Speedway to Sunshine."
I have no reason to doubt the validity of the statements made by the other editor, so as far as I know, they are true. I don't have a copy of Speedway, but I'm requesting it from my local library. I encourage anyone who sees factual errors in this article to correct them, and add to the references (just don't remove references that were already used). I'm adding the Speedway details to a further reading section since it wasn't already listed as a reference and I haven't had a chance to read it myself. slambo 23:31, Apr 2, 2005 (UTC)

Can we tone the hagiography down a bit?[edit]

Modern history[edit]

The FEC is notable for operating in its own set of labor rules compared to other railroads, and also that the crossties are made of concrete. GA Re-Review and In-line citations[edit]

Members of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles are in the process of doing a re-review of current Good Article listings to ensure compliance with the standards of the Good Article Criteria. Where does it have stations?[edit]

FECR terminated its unprofitable passenger service in 1962. It has no passenger stations, only freight loading facilities.

Incidents/Accidents[edit]

I know airline articles usually have an incidents & accidents section; would this be out of place on a railway article? The FECR was involved in that Feb 2010 accident killing three girls who were playing on a bridge. News reports can be found on CBS, MSNBC, USA Today, FOX News, and so forth. When did the FEC Railway reach Titusville?[edit]

According to the Brevard County page and Historical Commission - Brevard History Summary it reached Titusville in the mid 1880s. According to an uncited passage in this article it didn't extend south of Daytona until 1892. WerewNC (talk) 16:08, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Need new article on FEC strike which began in 1963[edit]

The FEC strike that began in 1963 is important in history. I really don't know much about the strike, besides its duration, bitterness, violence, and effect on US-wide work rules in a major industry (railroads). Therefore, I can't comment on the accuracy of the existing article on the FEC. But I can say that the level of detail that's in the current article is probably about right for a general article on the FEC.

I would like Wikipedia to have a new article specifically on the strike: what happened, why, and consequences.

I think the article should use Seth Bramson's book, Speedway to Sunshine, even though I haven't read it, because it is reputed to be the standard reference on the FEC. Similarly, I would expect the article to use historians who have published in the Florida Historical Quarterly. But I'm not sure such sources will have sufficient sympathy for the workers who went on strike. So, for completeness and NPOV, I encourage authors to search out such sources, in addition to sources that are sympathetic to FEC management.

I'm not expert enough on Wikipedia to know the best way to invite such an article to be written, but I'm cross-posting this to the Talk pages of WikiProject_Florida and WikiProject_Organized_Labour (with minor edits). Oaklandguy (talk) 04:08, 18 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
