Gneaus Octavious was not an ancestor of Octavian. In his introduction to Augustus life Suetonius quotes the noble gens Octavia, however Augustus origins were less aritocratic. He himself reports in his own autobiography that "his father was the first senator in his family". --Calabrian 12:23, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

Gnaeus Octavius is an ancestor of Augustus, but is mentioned in Plutarch's account of Marius and Sulla. Suetonius' account of Augustus mentions both sides of the Octavii family, but focuses more of Augustus' branch. This Gnaeus Octavius and Marcus Octavius are from the other branch of the Octavii family. 31 December 2005.

There are two branches of the Octavii family, the Gnaeus and Gaius. Augustus is from the Gaius branch, while Gnaeus Octavius and Marcus Octavius is from the Gnaeus branch. Read Suetonius' account on Augustus to understand what I am stating. This quote "his father was the first senator in his family" refers to Augustus' father, Roman Governor and Senator Gaius Octavius. 31 December 2005.
