[edit] "Hamadan" the Qahtani tribe

  • Hamadan is an ancient tribe that existed 700years before Islam.
  • Please posts any evidence of an Iranian Hamadan prior to the Islamic invasion?

The name is Semitic, not (Turkic or Farsi) --Skatewalk 04:18, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

There is a city in Iran called "Hamadan" or "Hamadhan" if I'm not mistaken. Perhaps we need a disambiguation link at the top. Also, the article is too focused on genealogy. Skatewalk can you add a few things about the historical role of Hamadan, or famous figures from the tribe? Slacker 08:22, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

  • Hamadan was the last tribes of Saba'a, they eventualy migrated North except Hashid and Bakil tribes instead they switched alliance to Himyar.
  • The Hamadani's of Hashid and Bakil remained in Yemen, While most of Himyar joined the Arab invasions, by the 9th century Hamadan gained importance in bringing the Zaydi Imams into power in Yemen.
  • In Hadramut Banu Kathir Hamdanis started their own dynasty, I will add on this.
  • In Lebanon Banu Al-Mashrouki Hamadanis raised a number of prominent Maronite patriarchs.

As of Hamedan in Iran, I heard it before from Farsi, they pronounce in a different way that Hamadan. And I tried digging the web and encyclopedias of the origin of the name but it doesnt show anything before the Islamic invasion of Persia? As of now I left it at (Hamedan). And I will fix this article soon--Skatewalk 10:39, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] "Hamadan" should be a redirect based on Wikipedia rules regarding naming - See WP:Name

There is already a an article for Hamdan tribe[1], but this page should be a redirect to Hamedan the city because in English, the term "Hamadan" is commonly used as a common variety of the city of Hamedan (look it up on google [2] Britannica Encyclopedia [3] Columbia Encyclopedia [4] or elsewhere), not the Hamdan tribe. The page should remain redirected to the most common usage in English per common sense and Wikipedia rules. [edit] "Hamedan" or "Hamadan"

I'm Persian and Hamedani, in formal Persian we say "Hamedan" and in Hamedani accent we say "Hemedan". in Tehrani accent is also called "Hamedun" so "Hamadan" is wrong! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.170.106.56 (talk) 06:53, 29 October 2011 (UTC)
