[edit] Factual accuracy

"He concluded by saying that any genuine diamonds had most likely been swallowed and excreted by wandering ostriches 'from a far off land'."

Wow! That obviously ridiculous statement has survived for nearly six months. A Google search for "James Gregory" mineralogist returns nothing but Wikipedia mirrors. Is this article completely nonsense? --TantalumTelluride 04:01, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

Not nonsence. I quoted from an article in the book "The World's Greatest Mistakes" by Nigel Blundell. --Auric 23:18, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the input. The statement about the ostriches sounded so ludicrous that I thought the article was a hoax, but the AfD discussion generated some references that prove the article is factual. The article will ride out the deletion process, and it will very likely not be deleted. --TantalumTelluride 00:27, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
