Description of Requested Change

In order to avoid conflict of interest, I am requesting edits be made to JumpStart's page. I hope to reach a consensus that the current information is outdated and should be replaced with information that accurately describes current JumpStart products. If consensus is reached here on the articles talk page, I will make a formal edit request.

The first paragraph of JumpStart's current wikipedia page should be deleted and replaced. The current information no longer accurately describes JumpStart's products. I am requesting to delete this paragraph:

"JumpStart is a series of educational games produced by Knowledge Adventure. The series is distributed as Jump Ahead in the United Kingdom. Though the series primarily consists of educational PC games, other products, such as workbooks and videos, have been produced, as well as a handful of games for other video game consoles"

If consensus is reached that the previous paragraph no longer accurately describes JumpStart's products, I propose replacing that paragraph with the following:

"On March 10, 2009, Knowledge Adventure became a multi-faceted kids’ entertainment company by bringing the JumpStart® brand online with the launch of JumpStart.com. Designed for kids ages 3-12, this browser-based 3D virtual world is an immersive gaming platform that blends educational content with entertainment, where kids learn through gaming adventures.

Key features of the JumpStart Virtual World include: Jumpeez, the main avatar the child creates using variations of faces, hairs, eyes, mouths, hats and clothing with virtually endless combinations for customization; and an immersive, adventure-based collection of five different lands - StoryLand, AdventureLand, MarineLand, FutureLand and Uncle Milton’s Amazing ScienceLand - where children can play hundreds of games and learning activities. Um, you should probably sign your posts by typing four ~s (though I can tell from edit history that you are from the IP address 38.106.0.34. But who are you, exactly? From what you've been saying so far, you're probably either a JumpStart fan like me or a JumpStart employee. Considering the information you've put out already, 'employee' seems rather likely.

I still agree that more needs to be done with the JumpStart article and it's very sad that there's nothing about the JumpStart MMO here. I'll be incorporating some of the information above into the JumpStart article, but the paragraph you put up is simply too similar to an advertisement to have any place in Wikipedia. I mean, honestly, the paragraph above VERY much resembles an advertisement (using overly complimentary terms to describe things in JumpStart, such as "immersive", "virtually limitless", and "vast", and being styled like an advertisement in pretty much every way) - something that is wholly inappropriate for a Wikipedia article. No offense, but Wikipedia strives to be neutral. Yes, it often fails, but at the very least it tries to avoid putting advertisement-like statements in its articles.

Also, I'm somewhat confused that you seem to think that the old JumpStart products are no longer in existence and we need to remove all information about them to make room for the "new", and that all the old stuff is "not JumpStart anymore". This is simply not the way Wikipedia works, even if it would be more convenient for JumpStart advertisers. The content of this article may not describe current JumpStart products, but they still describe things that JumpStart has created, and unless you have a time machine, you can't change that.

I will agree with you that this article DOES need to talk about the JumpStart MMO. I would love to add some info about the JumpStart MMO to this page, and I may use some of your sources. But, in accordance with Wikipedia policy, we shouldn't remove all of the information about old JumpStart products just because JumpStart isn't actively pursuing their production anymore, and we shouldn't post up obviously-biased, advertisement-like content in an encyclopedia Wikipedia article.

Still, I'm glad you brought up this article not mentioning the JumpStart MMO, because it most certainly needs to - we just can't go about it in the way you're suggesting. And thank you for being one of the only beings on planet earth who cares about the JumpStart article on Wikipedia who isn't me!

Oh! And if you ARE a JumpStart employee, I'd like to thank you for all the work you're doing for JumpStart...I just hope your zeal for JumpStart doesn't make you desire to modify Wikipedia to match its intentions. StoryMakerEchidna (talk) 22:02, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

Yes, I'm a JumpStart employee and it was not my intention in any way to modify Wikipedia or what it stands for. I only suggested removing the current content because a History of JumpStart page already exists and these products are much more a part of JumpStart's history than it's present. I am completely fine with you changing how I wrote what needs to be added, it is hard to sound neutral when you are so close to a product. I just want the wikipedia page to reflect the JumpStart 3D MMO Virtual World, along with our current Wii games and mobile apps. I apologize if I went about it in a bad way, I am new to wikipedia but thanks for caring about JumpStart and wanting to update the page. 38.106.0.34 (talk) 19:10, 9 September 2011 (UTC)

Heh, no, you didn't offend me or anything, and I appreciate your honesty! I regret to inform you, however, that the Histroy of JumpStart page has been deleted. I did add a tiny bit about the JumpStart MMO at the start, and I recently added information about the apps too. Hopefully we'll be able to update this page to include more information about JumpStart's current products, but considering that an unfortunately small number of Wikipedians care very much about it, the process might be a tad slow. Still, I'm relatively optimistic that we'll be able to get some good info here. StoryMakerEchidna (talk) 19:17, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

I was just going about merrily adding citations when I realized that you aren't supposed to use bare links for citations. x_x I might try fixing them, but I'm not too experienced with citations, so if a more experienced Wikipedian could lend a hand, I could use the help.
