[edit] Talk:Umrao Singh

Editors of this article may be interested in the discussion at the above talk page over whether there is a Western equivalent to Umrao Singh's rank of Subedar Major. Warrant Officer? Chief Warrant Officer? -- ALoan (Talk) 17:44, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

  • US Warrant Officers are officers. However Indian JCOs are classified as PBOR - personnel below officer rank, even though they are awarded a commission.92.16.193.87 (talk) 14:02, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
    • I think this is a matter of semantics. JCOs (and VCOs before them) are simply the Indian and Pakistan Army equivalent of Warrant Officers in the British, US and other armies. That is to say an intermediate class between Non-Commissioned Officers and Commissioned Officers. 210.246.16.156 (talk) 02:28, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
      • The VCOs were senior to British Warrant Officers in Imperial India.--92.1.58.142 (talk) 21:43, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
