Why is this article presently (in the maths template) in "probability and statistics" rather then "mathematicians", (which seems better to me)? Melcombe (talk) 10:31, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Given recent updates of the bot categories above, is it time to rethink the intended coverage of this list. The present version of the article heading says "Statisticians or people who made notable contributions to the theories of statistics, or to the related aspects of probability or machine learning. Also included are actuaries and demographers." Two particular points are:
- this would not include contributions to the application of statistics
- there exist separate lists for some of these fields; list of actuaries, list of mathematical probabilists
From a practical point of view, we could take the view that if the article for someone has been included in one of the explicitly "statistician" categories they should be in this list, but that being only in an "actuaries" or "probabilists" category (if these exist) would not lead to their inclusion here. Similarly for other overlapping fields. Any thoughts? Melcombe (talk) 13:17, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
