[edit] Date confusion
Article says first Macy parade was in 1929 but then goes on to discuss things happening in earlier years. What were the real years? How many years (and which) was the parade in NJ before moving to NY? WikiParker (talk) 16:59, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] "Macy's Day Parade"
_ _ Unless they are being paid not to, New Yorkers say "Macy's Day Parade". Woody Allen, the quintessential New Yorker, had his own character in Broadway Danny Rose do so. Professional journalists covering it on the TV news do so. "Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade" has 158,000 Google hits, but "Macy's Day Parade" gets 133,000 hits for written references. The formal NY Times, which still calls newsmakers "Mr. <surname>" in subsequent references, has "60 of about 79" for
- "Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade" site:nytimes.com
but nevertheless one (4th 'graph) for
- "Macy's Day Parade" site:nytimes.com
The hipper Village Voice has "11 of about 13" for the formal version, and "5 of 5" for
- "Macy's Day Parade" site:villagevoice.com
Again, all of these written.
_ _ I've got no problem with the title being the formal version, but i'm adding
- usually the "Macy's Day Parade" in informal contexts
and not only bcz the needed rdr requires it.

- We call it the "Macy's Parade". 24.4.131.142 05:07, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Partial rewrite
I've trimmed and rewritten some portions of the page. In some cases, there was a lot of detail that isn't necessary for an encyclopedia article (like the names of the organizers), and in others, the information didn't meet NPOV (e.g., the use of words like "sadly" and "unfortunately"). I think that the page is a much nicer read now. but I do welcome corrections/additions (just please don't wholesale-revert or undo it). —LrdChaos (talk) 17:18, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- I've just reverted the edits by Maxx151 and 70.23.21.115, citing the addition of NPOV, unencyclopedic material. I don't want it to seem like I'm protecting "my" version of the page, so I figure I should explain a little as why. (For ease of viewing, this is a diff between my original rewritten version and the last edit before my revert).
- I don't think that we need a whole paragraph devoted to a book; the book is already mentioned in the references section, and that's all we need. This article is about the parade, not about the book.
- Secondly, there's no reason to list the names of the people involved in organizing the parade, especially in the way that it's been done here (by saying that "under [their] leadership ... the future looks even more joyful and exciting".
- The material about past perfomances needs to be sourced, and the use of phrases as "many fondly remember" doesn't seem like the statement ever could be. A more neutral phrasing of some of the more notable performers over the years would be a much better fit.
- The additions about the television coverage are likewise unsourced violations of NPOV. You would need to cite a source that makes these claims. The last bit (mostly 70.23.21.115's edits) really need no explanation; it just reads like one person's small rant about the coverage. —LrdChaos (talk) 14:01, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] External Links
I think the cleanup external links should be removed because the links to me are appropriate. Red1530 15:50, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] video game balloons
I removed the part about 1993 having Sonic being the first video game balloon. It was just thrown in the middle of the history paragraph for no reason. Also, if that is so important, perhaps a section on Parade Firsts would be better, such as the first time a tv character became a balloon, etc... Sabalon 02:17, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
- Looks like someone just kept rolling with that. Why is it relevant which was the first black or latino character? Superman, Ronald McDonald, and Pikachu are all from faraway lands and planets. It's rampant PC nonsense to point out specific groups as more special than others. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.73.70.113 (talk) 23:06, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Underdog Reference on Reba
On an an epsisode of Reba, Van and Buzzard, a minor character were talking as they were watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and they were disappionted that Underdog was replaced. I am wondering how long Underdog was in the parade? Mr. C.C. 16:15, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Barney
- One year the wind was so strong that the Barney balloon flew away from the rest of the parade.
Does anyone have any reference to this? And what year was that? Ryan Holloway (talk) 15:06, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Stewie Griffin
I heard stewie is going to be a balloon in this one, why isn't he on the balloon introductions thing? 98.15.219.192 (talk) 16:15, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
- Stewie was not a balloon in the parade. He was a balloon in a commercial, which doesn't qualify here. SpikeJones (talk) 19:17, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
[edit] 2001 Ronald
Hi, I just added a piece to the incidents part about the tear of the Ronald McDonald balloon in 2001. I clearly remember his arm being torn, and this picture: http://www.flickr.com/photos/boyds/1231432489/in/photostream/ has a hole in his arm, so please don't delete —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.166.242.9 (talk) 21:45, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Glee
Is the NBC/Glee incident really relevant? If so, does it belong under the balloon inflation heading? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.14.201.51 (talk) 07:11, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Kool-Aid Man 2010
Does anyone have proof that the "Kool-Aid Man" will be introduced in 2010? Seems unlikely and should probably be removed due to looking forward without citation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Digitallib (talk • contribs) 18:09, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
[edit] Bamberger's parade
An earlier version of this article claimed that the parade started at Bamberger's Department Store, and was transferred to Macy's. Someone just tried to reinsert that into the article today. That is false. L. Bamberger & Co. held its first Thanksgiving parade in 1931, seven years after Macy's first. [edit] Italic title
This article's title should not be italicized; it is a simple proper noun, not the title of a television program (although there is a television program associated with it that often uses the same name, they are not the same thing). Powers T 15:12, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
- I agree, it should be changed. AnimatedZebra (talk) 14:33, 17 April 2011 (UTC)

[edit] M&M's Balloon Incident: Free M&M's
Under "Incidents and Injuries", the paragraph that discusses the 2005 incident where the M&M's chocolate candies balloon got caught on a lamp post and the debris injured two sisters standing nearby: I've removed the last sentence of this paragraph that simply states, "Also, the sisters got a lifetime supply of M&M's." There has been a "citation needed" tag on that sentence since November 2010 and I've tried to find a reliable source that can back-up this claim, but can't. Considering those two points, I think I'm safe in removing it. —Schaea (talk) 08:08, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
