muspellheim was called the flame land because that is where they extracted iron out of the "mus" or "marsh" from the pell or pfelsen, it may have also served as a lighthouse on pellworm island. jmushorn@yahoo.com Midgaard is possibly the island of Sylt. (Middle Court) Because it is in the middle of the North-South Viking route (they launched assaults from there). Asgaard is the Eastern Court (possibly Kiev, it probably should be a city of equal lattitude with Newfoundland). Nifleheim is Norse for Nebel Heim (German) in English it is home amidst the fog. - Newfoundland has the most fog in the world. (This might be the Western Court, maybe they described it this way so it would not be confused with the Eastern Court) Surt is of course the traditional greek word for Africa (maybe) or Surt Libyia. => Sud (Frisian, German), Sur (French), South (English) or Southorn. Horn means Corner. It seems to me the pattern is both of contrasting locations as well as contrasting temperature extremes. This is how most of us live our lives - between the extremes.

[edit] Speculation

I added the speculative part about Muspelheim and Arabs, due to the fact that we do know that the norsemen have met the Arabs and fought them on many occasions, and lost. It wouldn't be far thinking to believe that legends grew from these encounters. 68.57.254.206 (talk · contribs)
