[edit] Eight-tails

Where was it said that the last Bijū (except for the Kyūbi) was the Hachibi? --JadziaLover (talk) 05:22, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

Circulating scanlations would have me believe that the eight-tails is mentioned in the circled panel of chapter 404. However, I don't see "八尾" anywhere on the page. Might this be another prominent mistranslation? ~SnapperTo 06:00, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
You're right, it doesn't say 「八尾」 there. It says 「"鷹"はもう一方を当たれ」 (" 'Hawk' wil go after the other").
I've read through the entire chapter, and any previous chapters mentioning the last Bijū they need to catch, but nowhere does it say the last Bijū is the Hachibi. Unless I'm missing it, of course. --JadziaLover (talk) 08:12, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
Scanlations have a second and final piece of "supporting evidence"; on the same page as linked above, Kisame says Akatsuki has captured all the beasts up to the seven-tails. Were that accurate, it would infer the eight-tails is the one they're missing. I would imagine that is also inaccurate? ~SnapperTo 18:17, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
If you're talking about what Kisame says in the centermost panel, than even that is a mistranslation.
Kisame says 「今は七匹まで"暁"が集めてますから…あと二匹」, which means "Now, 'Akatsuki' has collected seven beasts... two beasts remain". There's no mention of a specific Bijū here. --JadziaLover (talk) 12:29, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
Then that should bring an end to this case of hearsay until another mention of the beasts is made. The eight tails has been removed from all applicable articles. ~SnapperTo 17:19, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

i just double checked the english version, it says eight-tails 24.189.153.102 (talk) 00:33, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

confirmed spoilers for 408 reveal 8 tails 24.189.153.102 (talk) 23:14, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Actually, chapter 407 already confirmed the last Bijuu (besides the Kyuubi) is the Eight-Tails. On page 16 of this chapter, Madara says 「八尾はサスケに行かせた」 ("I'm going to have Sasuke go after the Eight-Tails"?). --JadziaLover (talk) 05:11, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

It turns out the 8-tails is an Ushi-oni, a type of aquatic ox-demon that often dwells in mountain pools or near waterfalls.98.223.107.158 (talk) 02:36, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Sourcing

Someone should really work on this, at least to get that tag off the top of the article. The Jutsu article does a decent job of citing all of its info from manga pages and etc, so some users who're devout to the Naruto project should follow suit. - Norse Am Legend (talk) 22:34, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Suggestion~~

I really think this page should be split... Trying to contain information about locations, ranks, jutsu... Think it's a bit too much for one page

I repeat; this page should be split. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bcmin12 (talkcontribs) 11:36, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

I don't know if this is the right place, but I would just like to point out that Iwagakure (sp?) or Land of the Earth, has gone missing from the article. You're welcome. --K.H. October 10, 2008 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.54.200.208 (talk) 10:25, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

I agree, this page should be split. Naruto is a popular enough series that there should be plenty of people ready to provide content, and there are certainly smaller articles. Perhaps a section for 'world' in the physical sense, in addition to the others? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zenostortoise (talkcontribs) 08:44, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit]  ???

How does "地球の土地" translate as "Tsuchi no Kuni" that means "Chīdama no Tsuchiji"... "Tsuchi no Kuni" would be "土の国". Or did Masashi Kishimoto specifically say that that is the reading for Tsuchi no Kuni?Moocowsrule (talk) 01:44, 11 October 2008 (UTC)moocowsrule

The Japanese wikipedia even uses "土の国". I think that "地球の土地" should be changed to "土の国". I'm going to change it to "土の国" and if anyone objects put it on here, don't change the page.Moocowsrule (talk) 02:28, 11 October 2008 (UTC)moocowsrule

It is correct, somebody placed 地球の土地 without knowing. The official translation is, as you say, 土の国, so please go ahead. Cristian Cappiello (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 21:40, 12 October 2008 (UTC).

[edit] ANBU Black Ops

Considering that this is an English Wikipedia, we should use the English name. WP:MJ specifically states that we are to use the official English title, and if none is present we use the most popular title. Considering that there is an English title, we should use it. ∴ the title of the "ANBU" should be "ANBU Black Ops".Moocowsrule (talk) 02:14, 11 October 2008 (UTC)moocowsrule

If ANBU Black Ops is what is used in the official English release of the manga, it should be used for all Naruto articles here, unless ANBU is a recognized abbreviation? -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 03:53, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
Looking at the article, it looks like the manga is using "Black Ops" without the ANBU. If that is the case, then it should be named "Black Ops". -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 04:05, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure the manga uses "ANBU Black ops"... Anbu is an acronym for "Ansatsu Senjutsu Tokushu Budokai"... but to make it less Japanese and more American, VIZ uses ANBU Black ops, and I think the anime does too, not sure though. There are a lot of problems regarding the ANBU section. First of all it should be "ANBU Black ops", and then when it talks about "Root" (which is the scanlation term), while VIZ uses "The Foundation". So I'm assuming we've reached a consensus? So then we're gonna use "ANBU Black Ops". I think we should use "The Foundation" and not "Root". We had the same Scanlation/Fansub problem with "The Valley of the End, which is Dattebayo's term, but the anime and manga use "The Final Valley". I think that this article needs a lot of clean-up. Most of the terms are Japanese, like we still use "Konoha" when I think we should use "The Hidden Leaf Village". But that is concerning another topic...Moocowsrule (talk) 04:15, 11 October 2008 (UTC)moocowsrule
I have asked someone more familiar with the series than I am to weigh in. Scanlation/fansub terms should never be used of the official English, of course. And I do agree, this article is not up to snuff with many of the other Naruto articles. You might want to peek at the character list, which is an FL list, to see what is being used there. And no, a consensus hasn't been reached yet. Discussion should be allowed to go for more than a few hours. :P -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 04:26, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
Sorry I edited your writing... you spelled English as Englihs... and it was annoying me...
Lol I'm watching that Gettysburg special on the travel channel and this person texted in "My wife took a picture last summer and there was a green orb and purple mist above my head..." LOL it's called the Sun smart one. The ray thingy's (don't know the official term) create a series of rings (usually purple-ish or green-ish). But the orb is probably just a malfunction on the camera. Well anyways I doesn't believe in ghosts...:P.
But back to the Naruto thing. I feels stupid. What's FL again? I said the consensus thing because I edited them... and I couldn't think of a more smarter (XD) word... so I just said "consensus"...Moocowsrule (talk) 04:58, 11 October 2008 (UTC)moocowsrule
FL = featured list. Consensus means that there was a discussion between editors and an agreement reached. However, time should be allowed for other editors who may have an interest in the topic to weigh in, and for anything that may have wider reaching results (such as changing a term across many articles), consensus should be sought in a visible place (such as the main article for that series, or a project talk page). See WP:CONSENSUS for more info. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 05:19, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
I know what consensus is... I was saying... Presque Vu... like I can't think of a word, so I substituted... Nobody has responded... I'm really confused about that show... they're using a box that's making buzzing noises to communicate to spirits... and it makes no sense...
And this is a bit off topic, but it's relating to Naruto. Naruto: Hurricane Chronicles: Ultimate Ninja Revolution which is supposedly the official English title, although there is no citation. I've been trying to find one, but I think somebody made this up. There's a debate on the talk page under "Citation Needed", which you could help... Sorry I'm telling you sort of what to do... You don't have to, but your expertise could help...Moocowsrule (talk) 05:29, 11 October 2008 (UTC)moocowsrule
A source is needed for that whole paragraph, including the Japanese release and the English release (which would also confirm the name). Someone should fix the bolding error too :P -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 05:34, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
That page needs to be locked. You're an admin right? Could you lock the page? It seems to be a hot-spot for vandals... Somebody erased the entire section for "Naruto: Shippūden Narutimate Accel 2" and wrote "is the next installment in the accel series" without any punctuation or capitalization... And both of those articles used to be really good, both Naruto: Shippūden Narutimate Accel and Naruto: Shippūden Accel 2. Now they just have the title, release date and Japanese title. It's sad T~T. Moocowsrule (talk) 05:43, 11 October 2008 (UTC)moocowsrule
No, I'm not an admin so I can't lock it. I'll take a look and if the vandalism is heavy, I'll request page protection for it. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 05:56, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
Really? You're not an admin? You should run for admin... You definitely fit the criteria better than me. Well still you or me should request it being locked. It isn't as common for vandalism as some other articles, but still it is vandalized. This is getting way off topic. I think we could delete most of this... or move it somewhere else...Moocowsrule (talk) 06:00, 11 October 2008 (UTC)moocowsrule
I've had a few people ask me if I wanted to, but I get too short tempered with vandals or rude people sometimes :P And request has been made for the lock. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 06:06, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Kay. That's good, but you should be an admin! You'd be good at it... I'd be to lazy of an admin... I love to read, but sometimes reading all the rules on here is boring... lol I know they're important, but I just don't have the patience to read all those rules... and I'm too dependent on others to do things for me... I usually like to let things resolve themselves, but you can't always do that... sometimes you have to take things into your own hands... but anyways I'd be a bad admin...Moocowsrule (talk) 06:13, 11 October 2008 (UTC)moocowsrule

To be perfectly honest, AnmaFinotera probably wouldn't pass an RfA. As an administrator coach, I'm familiar with the process, and people that tend to create controversy and heated situations generally don't pass. As for the topic here, I really don't care. If the English media use "ANBU Black Ops", then fine, although I don't see why ANBU alone isn't fine for our purposes. — sephiroth bcr (converse) 08:45, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
I'd nominate Coll for an RfA in a split second. Honestly, either works, since "ANBU" is used in the English versions. Suigetsu 15:28, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
And I'd fight tooth and nail for it not to pass. The current usage of the term in this article works well enough when applied to either the English or original versions, so yeah, let's just keep it as is. - Norse Am Legend (talk) 20:22, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
It would be fine leaving it at ANBU I guess, but "Root" has to be changed to "The Foundation" and some of the other titles have to be changed to the official English title...Moocowsrule (talk) 23:41, 12 October 2008 (UTC)moocowsrule
We're using "Konoha," "Oto," etc. Don't bother changing that. And Norse, you probably would "fight tooth and nail for it not to pass" because you're still butthurt over all the non-notable articles getting merged Suigetsu 04:16, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
How incredibly uncalled for. Even though I'm opposed to AnmaFinotera being an admin, she doesn't deserve the support of some uncivil, opinionated tool who frequents 4chan. - Norse Am Legend (talk) 17:11, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
Suigetsu, check your tongue at the door. If you're unable to write a post without including some sort of profanity with it, then don't bother. As for Norse, yes, I realize that you would be opposed to AnmaFinotera at an RfA, but relax. There's no chance of her passing because of the drama and edit-warring that often occurs with her (an arbitration case on conduct nukes 99% of RfAs in any case), and while I agree with many of her opinions and stances, I am neutrally noting that she will not pass. Now, both of you, drop it and go do something constructive. — sephiroth bcr (converse) 19:23, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
My apologies if you consider "butt" a profanity. I was simply offering comment on something that people were talking about, but I was under the impression that Wikipedia was uncensored, so I really should grant my opinion whether or not I feel a profanity is necessary. I do find it interesting and almost mocking that you write a paragraph on the subject at hand and say at the end of it "drop it both of you" as if your word is some sort of absolution or end-all of arguments, but you are an admin, and one I respect at that, so I guess that's true to some extent. By the way, I changed "Root" to "the Foundation" in this article (possibly to spite you for telling me to go do something constructive :P), but I think I'm going to have to do so for Sai's section in List of Naruto characters sometime later. Norse, plz read WP:NPA and don't call me an "opinionated tool" again. Suigetsu 00:24, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
You should take your own advice Suigetsu.
WP:NPA...
Well thanks for changing it to The Foundation. Plus... I don't remember what I was writing...

Well anyways butt really isn't profanity... but saying "butthurt" can be fairly offensive... but Wikipedia is "uncensored"... to a certain extent.Moocowsrule (talk) 03:33, 14 October 2008 (UTC)moocowsrule

Uncensored such that you can't just order people not to include profanities in their messages. I admit that there is some sort of line to be drawn, but one instance of "butt" is not close to that line. "Butthurt" can be offensive, I admit, but I'm fairly blunt, and "butthurt" adequately sums up the situation, so I used it over the more generic "mad," "angry," etc. There's probably a better word for what I'm looking for, but I'm too dimwitted to know it. [edit] Um...

So why do we use "Jinchūriki" and such, while Viz uses "Jinchûriki" in the English manga? I'm just wondering. I mean if we're supposed to use what's used in the English manga, then it would make more sense to use "Jinchûriki"... Moocowsrule (talk) 05:24, 31 October 2008 (UTC)moocowsrule'

"ū" is the correct macron. — sephiroth bcr (converse) 05:31, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
Yes I know it's the "correct" macron, but I mean if we use what's used in the English manga, then shouldn't we use the "Jinchûriki" romanization? Unless the rule that states we use ō and ū overrules the rule that states that we use the English manga info... ??? Moocowsrule (talk) 20:23, 31 October 2008 (UTC)moocowsrule
MOS:JP#Body text advocates ū. Viz uses û as a stylistic preference. ~SnapperTo 00:04, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
It's not sylistic, it's an official transliteration. moocows rule 00:56, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
Is there a pronunciation difference?--Marhawkman (talk) 12:07, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Not that I know of, just a different form of romanization. VIZ usually uses circumflexes (^) instead of macrons (-) anyways. I was wondering this because, for the article Karakuridôji Ultimo we use a circumflex rather than a macron, and I was told that since VIZ uses the circumflex that we should use it too, as it's an official romanization. moocows rule 19:09, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Controlling a tailed beast

"However, no one except Madara Uchiha has ever been able to fully control a tailed beast. So the jinchūriki were created but were only a marginal success. Only Killer Bee and Yugito Nii seem to be able to fully control their Tailed Beast, with Killer Bee seeming to have a mutual relationship with his beast."

This doesn't make any sense. Is Madara Uchiha the only one able to fully control a tailed beast? Or are Killer Bee and Yugito Nii the only ones? I think it's meant to sound like Madara was the only one to do it without being a jinchūriki but I can't recall that. Rekija (talk) 05:42, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

I don't think there's evidence that Madara could....--Marhawkman (talk) 07:26, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
That particular passage referred to how Madara could control the demon fox with his Mangekyo Sharingan. Since that has nothing to do with jinchūriki, I've removed it. ~SnapperTo 23:37, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
Sasuke can at least manipulate the fox with his normal Sharingan; he suppressed it when the fox was trying to take over Naruto. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.157.126.31 (talk) 04:07, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

About the 7-tails... where is Takigakure? 142.26.133.248 (talk) 18:16, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Takigakure is "the Village hidden behind a waterfall" AKA the Waterfall village. It's only really seen in one of the movies, and as the origin for a few characters seen in the anime/s. there used to be a nice list with all the villages, but someone decided it was too long....--Marhawkman (talk) 06:56, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

I think Sandiame Mizukage could also control the three tails, and Shodaime Hokage could too. Phoenix827 (User talk:Phoenix827) 11:27 11 December 2011(UTC)

[edit] S-rank

*sigh*

The only factual part of the section is that Akatsuki members are S-class, but that's just to have a fancy way of saying "dangerous criminals". Everything else is fan conjecture. ~SnapperTo 20:01, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Rain Country

There has been no mention of a Rain Country in the series, as far as I know. They only ever talk about the Rain Village. --JadziaLover (talk) 08:02, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Early translations of chapter 366 referred either to the Rain Village or the Rain Country, confusing which was the point of interest and which factoids went with which. In hindsight it was clearly the Rain Village. Still, the (more reliable) translation I keep on my computer does make reference to an accompanying country, though not by name. Unless the village is the country. Could you verify? ~SnapperTo 20:28, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
Whenever a smaller country with a hidden village is spoken about (e.g. Kusagakure, Amegakure, or Otogakure) the name of the hidden village is used to refer to the entire country. Now I won't guess if this means the smaller countries are completely run by their respective hidden villages, but none of these countries was ever directly named.
The only countries that were ever named are the five great countries (Fire, Water, Wind, Lightning, and Earth) and a few smaller countries without hidden villages (River and Wave). --JadziaLover (talk) 17:53, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Biju

There is this image with all the Jinchuuriki. How come there are 9 people pictured? The three tailed beast wasn't sealed inside a host. How reliable is that picture? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Blodskaal (talkcontribs) 14:34, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

It's by Kishimoto, but he's yet to elaborate on who it is. Presumably it was the most recent host, the beast having been freed from them at some point prior. ~SnapperTo 22:44, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

One of the Mizukage's was a former host of the 3 tailed beast. Not sure why it was removed from its host though. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.26.122.12 (talk) 01:34, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

[edit] acadmy / ginin

"To ensure that only truly qualified ninja are promoted, only three Genin teams are allowed to pass, each year" line quoted from the page that i disagree with

i am fairly familiar with naruto but i do not recall this being stated as a cannon fact i remember that kakashi made a statement that could be interpreted this way but one must look at the context the statement was made in and wonder was he telling the truth or was he just trying to turn up the pressure on his potential students and his statement happened to have come true coincidentally this time cause only 9 new ninja a year just done not seem like it could keep a military force staffed that way maybe it was that only 9 were worthy to be ninja that year ... also who says the ninja academy works on an annual basis for all we know they could operate 4 sessions each starting 3 months apart thus 4 graduating classes a year or something else Goku90504 (talk) 03:09, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Kakashi stated the test given to the new Genin has a 66% fail ratio. This does NOT means only 3 Teams pass each time, as the number of the teams taking the test may vary. Also, it's not to be interpreted as "each time we pass only 66% of the rookies" but "the test is SO HARD an average of 66% of the new genin fail it". Also, it would be really stupid for them to fail teams who passed the test just because they already had 3 teams... I'm going to change the section in a few days if nobody can bring any reference stating only 3 teams pass each year. Sirtao (talk) 20:48, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
My apologies for reverting you without an edit summary; I missed your edit amongst the usual vandalism. Anyway, in chapter 4, Kakashi says that only 9 of the 27 graduating students will be accepted as Genin. I think the 66% is only being applied to his bell test. ~SnapperTo 21:11, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
Was that a definitive statement or a "probably" sort of statement?--Marhawkman (talk) 21:36, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
Judge for yourself (Viz translation):
Kakashi, to Team 7: "Of the twenty-seven members of your graduating class, only nine will actually be accepted as junior-level shinobi. The other eighteen must go back for more training. <bubble change> The test we are about to perform has a 66% rate of failure."
~SnapperTo 21:48, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
Hmm... Yeah, it sounds that way, but.... I dunno if it should be considered to be a rule or a statement of the statistical average. Got context?--Marhawkman (talk) 00:43, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
Uh, he's talking about the bell test. ~SnapperTo 17:56, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
Kakashi never passed anybody, so that cannot be the failure ratio of HIS test. 66% is the average failure ratio of the Jonin-given test. AVERAGE being the keyword, as it's the only way it makes any sense: since the Jonin teachers don't communicate during the test, they cannot know how many teams already passed, and it wouldn't make any sense at all to fail a perfectly fine team just because 3 teams already passed the test. Sirtao (talk) 18:22, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
Kakashi wasn't the only one to have ever used the bell test, so he may have been using a historical average. As a compromise, we could just say that when Naruto graduated, only 9 of the 27 graduates became Genin, not making any reference to maximums or statistical success rates. ~SnapperTo 18:51, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
that works for me. :)--Marhawkman (talk) 19:34, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Thank you. I changed it to Sasuke Uchiha. I think it's more appropriate now. How did you find that page and edit it? This is becuase when I type in "Uchiha" on the search bar it directs here again. I'd like to direct it to Sasuke Uchiha. NarSakSasLee (talk) 18:59, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
When you're redirected to an article, there will be a message at the top of the page that says "(Redirected from X)". Click whatever the X happens to be. ~SnapperTo 19:21, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding the Jonin section

I read this in the Jonin section, "Though it is as yet unknown what one has to undergo to become a Jonin, it is mentioned in the Naruto Anime Profiles that Jonin are appointed.[citation needed]", and I found the source (book & page number) but don't know how to cite it. How would I do this? Spindori (talk) 19:27, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Use <ref>{{cite book|last= |first= title= |year= |publisher= |page= |isbn= }}</ref>. Just fill in the blanks. ~SnapperTo 19:57, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
I went ahead and added it there, but I'm only worried that going with the translator's name would change anything, because that's as close to "author" as was listed. Spindori (talk) 20:21, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
