Talk:Northolt Aerodrome
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Battle of Britain was directed from RAF Northolt. Churchill drove up from Westminster to oversee the planning. Because no smoking was permitted on site, he is alleged to have frequently waited nearby, smoking a final cigar before entering the aerodrome. After the first world war Lawrence of Arabia trained as a pilot at Northolt. In the 1980s Gary Numan frequently flew his private plane from the civilian part of the aerodrome. In the 1980s Libya was bombed by US planes taking off from here.
