I have seen in some of the 19th century texts it is referred as vangavolu (vanga=egg plant volu=place).--Vyzasatya 17:53, 3 October 2005 (UTC)

Ongole is not famous for egg plants. Rather the name of the town might be due to Ong tribes, Ong+ Volu = Ongole or Vong + Volu = Vongolu or Ongole. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.249.37.60 (talk) 10:22, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
