I just had a look on the German Wikipedia, regarding the Salzach. Where they are using different figures. They say that the Salzach only form about 59km of the Austrian-German border and that the Salach was only used until the 18th century for transporting Salt. [edit] Useful addition: source of the salt
Since salt was such an important commodity, it would be nice to know where the salt came from that was shipped down the "Salt" river (as this page currently (2009-Oct-20) says is the case). Was the salt mined, shipped over the Alps, or something else? I think such information might not rightly belong in this article about the Salzach, but perhaps in its own article, with links as appropriate (including a link in article about the city Salzburg).
