what are some names of the sounds?
[edit] Strait
What's the difference between a strait and a sound? NATO.Caliber (talk) 08:33, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
Two "sounds" in Ontario, Canada are Owen Sound and Perry Sound. They are cities situated on a "large bay". It seems to meet the definition given. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wmckiern (talk • contribs) 20:24, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
[edit] Oresund
I've never heard this usage, and it sounds pretty limited (especially since it refers to an area outside the English-speaking world). I'm not saying it's not true, but I think it's too broad a statement to be the first paragraph of the article. For example, in the Northeast United States, "The Sound" refers to the Long Island Sound. I suggest this paragraph be dropped or moved to the bottomn. Thoughts?113.22.26.36 (talk) 14:22, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
- Agreed. "The Sound" is used colloquially for whichever "sound" the speaker is most familiar with, not just the Oresund. 68.77.95.64 (talk) 02:20, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
