Good job - but why didn't you mention the fact that Stevenage is also the unofficial Mecca for Burberry clad, hooded chavs? Thats a major reason why I left.

Chavs

Indeed I am sir!

Stevenage is the only place I know where they have an ambulance and police response unit set up in the leisure park on friday and saturday night. As they are called so frequently, it was a worthwhile and cost effective step. I kid you not!! (even saw it on ITV)

Additionally, walking in the town centre, one in every three girls 14-16 seem to have a baby. Must have been the inspiration for Viz's "Kappa Slappa".

(P.s as you may have figured out, the previous comment about the chavs was mine, I'm new to this and didn't know how to add a comment and accidently edited one! Sorry)

Transport

I think there ought to be a transport section. I know there's a railway station, and presumably there are buses, taxis, cycle lanes etc. as well. Does anybody know enough to add to the article? A bit iffy 13:04, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

Sport Stevenage

Hi,

Can we mention something here about sport in Stevenage?

Sport Stevenage is the sports council for the town; it is Sport England at the local level. We have a new Web site: sportstevenage.co.uk which features a "club finder" where you may search for local sports clubs. You may also find sport news articles of local interest and information about upcoming sport events.

According to Herts county council, the population for Stevenage town was 80,873. Therefore, how comes the estimation for 2005 is less?

Famous People

Alan Munro the Jockey comes from Stevenage and should be added. Also Graham Poll, the ref who gave out three yellow cards to one player in a World Cup match, grew up in Bandley Hill, Stevenage.Jim Eblett (talk) 20:31, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Obviously nothing more than rumour, but I've heard it said for years that Lacey Turner lives in Stevenage, and even before that rumours that her parents come from Stevenage. I was always unsure about it, thinking that somebody would've seen her about by now, but they still persist years later. Anyone got any sources on this? Perry (talk) 02:18, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

"Places of worship"

It seems fairly standard to indlue similar sections, and churhces do usually have a fairly wide social mipact. There may be ommissions, but better to add equivalents for other religions, rather than delete existing information. Churches are often very significant historically and architecturally, and Anglican parish churches still have important legal functions as the established church. The list is not well presented, but there are clearly some unusual things there, a number of joint churches (probably a function of the New Town development), and a Coptic church suggests an active Egyptian community in the town, which probably ought ot be expanded on elsewhere in the article. Also note that WP:UKTOWNS#Religious sites recommends the inclusion of places of worship, so do not remove without consensus (preferably involving WP:UKGEO please.
