I served with pride aboard the AFDL 7 from September 1945 to June 1946 as a Motor Machinists Mate.

After serving with Com Serv Div 102 in Eniwetok, Marshall Islands, as F 1/c aboard LCVP landing craft it was decided to disband after the "bomb" and I was transferred to the AFDL 7. ( I, as well as the rest of the crew, never knew that the dry dock was named Ability,- that knowledge gained from the internet of our present age)

This was indeed a great experience for me after serving on a LCVP with a six cylinder grey-marine diesel to go to a vessel with three Cummings in-line diesels with 250KW of generation each plus a 65KW Fairbanks standby, not to mention a One-lunger diesel air compressor start-up and other gasoline auxiliary motors.

I served aboard the dry dock while she was active,- docking and repairing DE's, LSM's, LCI's, LCT's, tugs and other auxiliary boats. All this was done in Eniwetok, Marshall Islands.

The AFDL 7 was then towed to Kwajalein in Spring 1946. It was no longer used to drydock ships and craft. There was a problem with worn precision bearings and replacements were not available.

I left ship's company in June 1946 at Kwajalein for stateside and discharge.
