Welcome to the Talk page for Wayne Corporation.

A few suggestions for getting to WP:GA:

  • References: the article was based on more than just the safety link, right? References should be cited within the text, e.g. with <ref> tags.
  • Too many sections: some of the subsections are short and shouldn't be split from the parent section.
  • A little long (but acceptable): you could solve this problem and the one above by using Wikipedia:Summary style.
  • The whole thing is organised chronologically which isn't necessarily the most logical layout, though since I know little about the subject I'll stay out of that.
  • Some of the links are duplicated many times, notably Richmond, Indiana. After the first mention you can drop the link, and unless the context is ambiguous you don't need to keep repeating the state.

I haven't read the whole article, but if I get a moment later I might go through and make a few cosmetic changes. You might like to try Wikipedia:Peer review for further ideas. Joe D (t) 00:46, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Image:1944 Wayne Works advertisement.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. [edit] Re-working the article

I just wanted to explain the reasoning behind some of why I tagged the article in places. As it is mentioned in other places on the talk page, it is a bit on the long side (there is plenty of information and I won't complain about that).

I do have a couple of proposals, though:

  • The Wayne Busette has its own article, so it's probably time to start one on the Lifeguard (and possibly the Lifestar). That way, the article can be edited for length without deleting any content (it gets shifted to these articles).
  • The content dedicated to professional cars/hearses, ambulances, and Divco trucks is located in the right place in the article chronologically but is this really supposed to read like a story? (that is why I put the tags on)

All in all, the Wayne article is still the most thoroughly-written article on a school bus manufacturer on Wikipedia. SteveCof00 (talk) 10:26, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

It's certainly thorough, but it also consists almost entirely of original research, which isn't a particularly good thing. If the original research was removed, the article would be much, much shorter than it is now. –BMRR (talk) 19:54, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
To clarify, the article does not consist of original research. Rather, when most of it was written a number of years ago, applicable Wikipedia criteria did not use the much-higher source and reference protocols which we do now. This same situation is also true of a number of the older articles in WP. I have found that it is difficult and even tedious to go back years later and update the sources item by item with footnotes, even when the list of sources is provided at the end, as was the WP policy at that time. Hopefully, ongoing editing by our growing number of contributors (following current source and reference criteria of course) will at least gradually overcome this flaw in the integrity of this and many other articles. Vaoverland (talk) 21:08, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
If I understand this correctly, there may be a way to reference the content in the article without having to add hundreds of footnotes from just a source or two. General reference sources appears to cover how to do this. I hope this helps with things. SteveCof00 (talk) 05:32, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Splitting things up

Recently, I just gave the Wayne Lifeguard its own article...it probably needs a little editing work, but for the most part it is ok. I just created a page for the Lifestar, but I haven't moved it into articlespace just yet, as it needs some sorting out to be done to it before that can happen. Once there are meaningful sub-articles to the main Wayne page, then that can be pared down a bit. SteveCof00 (talk) 04:41, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

As the Lifeguard, Busette, and Lifestar all have their own article space now, I edited their content on the main paige here for length a bit (as their is a link to their main article about them out in the open); it should reduce the scrolling a little. --SteveCof00 (talk) 10:08, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
Expanding things It looks like the Crown by Carpenter content was expanded recently. It looks to work out well, although the only thing is that it's all here and not on the Carpenter page yet. Rather than cutting things down, I think a link would work nicely as soon as the respective content is included there. --SteveCof00 (talk) 05:09, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Finishing things

For the most part, the article's reformatting is mostly done with one minor exception which I am posing here first for discussion. The subsections with content about the development of school bus yellow and school bus warning light systems are fairly well-developed. There is one small problem...as written, they don't seem to have anything to do with Wayne Corporation history. These would be good candidates for deletion unless they have something that needs to be tied in with the company history. As the article re-formatting is mosrly done now, it is best to get started on improving the verifiability of the article.

Other things that might need to be done in the long-term:

  • Free-use images for the Lifestar, Papoose, and Busette
  • Information about the Wayne Chaperone and RD-9000 (sure, the latter had "groundbreaking features", but the article doesn't answer the question of what they are.)
  • The Crown by Carpenter content is now migrated to the Carpenter page, so its length here can be cut down a bit.
  • Anything else that is up for suggestion.

I'll try to keep working on this page some more in the future. --SteveCof00 (talk) 09:35, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with File:Crown by carpenter logo.jpg

The image File:Crown by carpenter logo.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.
