Ógra Spelling[edit]

Can someone change the article's name from Ógra Fianna Fáil to Ógra Fhianna Fáil, which is the correct spelling.--Jim236 (talk) 23:10, 08 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well if you're willing to trust a Facebook page, which was probably started by someone with no command of the Irish language, over basic(correct) Irish grammar then fair enough. Their Facebook page should say Ógra Fhianna Fáil, but I don't think you can use that or Fianna Fáil's own website as a reference considering the main Fianna Fáil website says "Ogra Fianna Fail". If you look at a Queen's Univeristy Cumann document it does make reference to "Ógra Fhianna Fáil"[3].

I mean again its basic Irish, a seimhiú is put in the word if it comes after a word starting with a vowel, or where there should be "of", as in Youth of Fianna Fáil - Ógra Fhianna Fáil. You can see this on Sinn Féin's website where they have Ógra Shinn Féin[4], and when Fianna Fáil make reference to their President - Uachtarán Fhianna Fáil[5]. The FF constitution reads - "(ii) To develop a distinctive national life in accordance with the diverse traditions and ideals of the Irish people as part of a broader European culture, and to restore and promote the Irish language as a living language of the people." It should be renamed Ógra Fhianna Fáil or at least refered to as sic as it is incorrect. The name is in Irish but would not be referred to as that in Irish. Rinagaeilge (talk) 05:07, 25 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
