Radical or conservative

I'm pretty sure the 50's were radical and the 30's were conservative, not the other way around.

Yes. Certainly in the UK the 1920s were radical until the breaking of the general strike, the 1930s saw consolidation from the right, the 1940s saw war and the late 40s/early 50s saw the post-war settlement - a direct result of the government's fears over rising militancy.

The WWII page includes Japanese torture and POWs, Nazi pages of POWs, Female Spies, Women serving, Japanese surrender, VEDay, VJ Day, and others as well as cartoons which were popular during this era.

We need to reach a consensus on the final selection of images included in the 1940s montage on the top of the page through a discussion (and not through edit wars) which would include (hopefully) many Wikipedians.
