5sos genre[edit]

I think 5 seconds of summers' genre is more punk rock rather than pop rock they have stated it on numerous occasions how they are a punk rock. They occasionally call themselves punk rock when really they are very cute dorks

Request for changes on the 5SOS Wikipedia page[edit]

They have a new UK tour beginning in 2014, as stated on http://5sos-official.tumblr.com/live . They have another music video, "Wherever You Are", that was released earlier this fall (http://www. youtube .com/watch?feature=player_profilepage&v=2GRtFC8nTag) . I think their Youtube link should be there (if it is, I apologize, but if not http://youtube.com/user/hemmo1996 .) Their profile picture should change, as they've gotten older and look different. They're categorized as pop rock as well, but they call themselves pop punk and/or punk rock as referenced in several tweets, videos, and livestreams. If you could mention how supportive their fans (the 5SOS Fam) are, and how kind they are to every single one of us, that would be amazing. Thank you for you time, and I know how much they appreciate the fact that they actually have a Wikipedia page.[Also please don't add Niall Horan to the band like they're seperate from 1D clearly.] Ashtonirwinded (talk) 03:22, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

Five Seconds of summer in the years started with only the three members , Calum Hood, Michael Clifford and Luke Hemming than later joined by Ashton Irwin and Niall Horan. Niall Horan is a member of 5 Seconds of summer

5 Seconds of Summer is a punk rock band not a boyband.

Daniellehemmings (talk) 00:01, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Not done: you need to provide reliable sources for anything like that. Their official web site does not list Horan as a band member. --Stfg (talk) 10:56, 2 January 2014 (UTC)

Alyssagarza (talk) 06:21, 2 January 2014 (UTC) 5 seconds of summer are not punk rock nor a boy band they are more pop rock than anything, looking at their inspirations, but they should be classified as punk pop rock since they're not fully punk rock since punk rock is more of Transplants, Rage Against The Machine, etc. The band are Pop rock, but to make them happy we should put Punk Pop Rock since they are more close to that. Alyssagarza (talk) 06:21, 2 January 2014 (UTC)

Wikipedia gets a lot of discussion making fine distinctions about genres. Too fine. This is original research. We should only include what is stated in reliable sources. --Stfg (talk) 10:56, 2 January 2014 (UTC)

Please change 5 seconds of summer's music genres. The music genres of 5 seconds of Summer include; pop, pop rock, or "bubblegum pop rock". It currently says that 5 seconds of summer are "pop punk", this is very inaccurate to the point where its embarrassing. 5 seconds of summer do not have any of the characteristics pop punk music has. Pop punk music requires the following:

  • Anxious or stressed vocals
  • Usually none to little guitar, drum, or vocal solos (such as in pop music)
  • Very intense and dramatic metaphors; not literal

There are many other reasons but I don't want to waste any more of my time or yours, but people have started to make jokes about 5 seconds of summer because they are labeled "pop punk" by this page.

5 Seconds of Summer announced in early March 2014, that they will be supporting One Direction on their Where We Are Tour across North America and Canada,[2] and that they will embark on a "5 Countries in 5 Days" tour of Europe, playing in Sweden, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain.[3]

The above is located under the "tours" heading of the wikipedia page for 5 seconds of summer. The issue I found is a technicality. Canada is in North America and does not need to be specified. Thus it should read: 5 Seconds of Summer announced in early March 2014, that they will be supporting One Direction on their Where We Are Tour across North America,[4] and that they will embark on a "5 Countries in 5 Days" tour of Europe, playing in Sweden, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain.[5]

Also please change Seconds of Summer is an Australian pop punk band.[2] Formed in Sydney in 2011, the band consists of Luke Hemmings (vocals, guitar), Michael Clifford (guitar, vocals), Calum Hood (bass guitar, vocals) and Ashton Irwin (drums, vocals) to Seconds of Summer is an Australian pop punk band.[2] Formed in Sydney in 2011, the band consists of Luke Hemmings (lead vocals, guitar), Michael Clifford (guitar, vocals), Calum Hood (bass guitar, vocals), Ashton Irwin (drums, vocals) and Niall Horan (volunteered Fan) Lukehemmings5sos (talk) 23:01, 13 May 2014 (UTC)

X mark.svg Not done As much as I would like to do this edit, the Manual of Style as it relates to bands says to list only those who have officially performed under the moniker of said band. Otherwise, of course, there would be no restriction from listing other "volunteer Fan"s from the article, and the list of members here would stretch to the millions. I don't recall when Niall ever actually performed for/with 5SOS, either, aside from their simultaneous appearances during tours. ~Helicopter Llama~ 23:33, 13 May 2014 (UTC)

Please change 'pop' band to 'pop punk' band as the boys have toured with 'Hot Chelle Rae' whom of which are a pop punk band. Also, a varied few of their songs have hints of punk in. 109.148.175.144 (talk) 21:09, 26 May 2014 (UTC)

Please give proper sourcing. Just because the boys toured with Hot Chelle Rae does not necessarily make them a pop punk band. Genre[edit]

Pop-punk? I don't think 5sos fits into the same category as The Wonder Years or The Story So Far. not even All Time Low to be honest. I know that they're influenced by bands like blink and atl, but that doesn't make them a pop-punk band. they're just pop rock. --24.189.29.198 (talk) 06:20, 3 June 2014 (UTC)

We go by published accounts of the band. Cory Midgarden of MTV wrote that they are pop-punk: “New York, make some noise! We’re 5 Seconds of Summer,” the Australian pop-punk band exclaimed as they took the stage Tuesday night, as if anyone in attendance needed the introduction.
That's not a deep analysis of their sound, but "pop-punk" is a label applied in passing, so we take our cue from that. Binksternet (talk) 13:31, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

POP OR POP ROCK OR POP PUNK[edit]

5SOS is not pop. Where you cite them as a pop band if you click on the citation it comes up as pop rock. Please change pop to pop rock or pop punk because they are more than just bubblegum pop. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.27.247.91 (talk) 20:34, 5 June 2014 (UTC)

On the 5 Seconds of Summer wikipedia page, it says that, "5 Seconds of Summer are an Australian pop punk[1] and pop rock[2] boy band.[3][4][5][6]." I am asking you on behalf of all 5 Seconds of Summer fans to take boy band out of that description and please replace it with something like "punk rock." 5 Seconds of Summer are not a boy band, they are alternative rock, and have said in many interviews that they do not like being called a boy band and do not want to be called a boy band because they are. Many fans, including myself, are offended when 5 Seconds of Summer (5sos for short) are called a boy band because we feel that the bands' feelings and wants are being disregarded. For these reasons I ask that you please changed boy band to rock band. Thank you. 70.139.55.33 (talk) 23:24, 12 June 2014 (UTC)

"Boyband" ??[edit]

Urban dictionary defines a boy band as a group of boys who DO NOT PLAY INSTRUMENTS as you can see here http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=boy%20band And Collins dictionary defines a boy band as an all-male vocal pop group as you can see here http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/boy+band

5 Seconds of Summer is not a boyband, as they all play instruments and write their own music. And we have already established that they are not pop, and pop music is also a term used with boybands.

Please change "boyband" to "band".
