Certifications[edit]

Where did you get the info about the album going 5x plat? I checked his site and MAD TV and they did not say anything and MAD would usually be the first to report. IFPI does not really "announce" certifications, the media networks do. And by the way it seems very unlikely that the album would go 5x plat. None of his other albums have ever had sales like that, not even fili&ehtri. Even though f&e went 4x plat, it only sold 120,000, contrary to 160,000 regularly needed because in 2006 IFPI lowered the standards, so it only sold as much as Akatallili Skini sold. This album is nowhere even close to F&E in success and radio airplay and it was off the chart by march, so where would those sales be coming from? His bio says that:

  • Paraxeni Giorti = Plat
  • Kryfo Fili = Plat (however, it apparently sold over 70,000 copies so it may have possibly been certified 2x plat, but not 3x like the discography page states).
  • Akatallili Skini = 3x plat
  • F&E = 4x
  • 7 = 2x
  • Live = 2x plat (i think, but i've also read 3)
  • Zontana sto lycavitto = 2x plat

Greekboy got an email from IFPI. He copy pasted it to me, but I didn't save it. The email said 5x plat, but I don't know if they applied the new numbers to it or if was with the old ones. Grk1011/Stephen (talk) 21:43, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds interesting. I looked everywhere and even googled it in Greek but couldn't find anything. I guess we can just wait for the ref whenever it comes. It looks like they are just converting the old sales number for active albums to the new certification numbers? Before with the old system, "7" had sold at least 60,000 copies (and this is confirmed). So now with the new system, that 60,000 copies brings it to 5x platinum. I guess we will have to wait and see in August when IFPI launches their new site to be certain, and see how exactly they are converting albums to the new system. And which albums they will convert. But this email confirms that "7" is one of the converted albums.

Also, the template I used for the reception section probably isn't the right one, but I feel like the section is way to long and one sided. Greekboy (talk) 04:51, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you look at english albums, the reception section is usually quite huge. The author had a lot to say so I put it in. I also tried to find the Music Corner review which I knew for a fact would have a better review; I found a lot of other albums, but it would not let me link to this album to find the review. You can try if you want and then ask me to fix the section. Also, I am not doubting that those are the new #s as I do not know for sure, but they seem so ridiculous. I was completely surprised that they would decide to lower them this drastically, I was only expecting 25K for plat. I guess these are bad times for music; does this also mean that the international albums went down by half, cuz the LP numbers resemble those of the international artist #s. I was thinking that if the new # was 25K then it would make sense that 7 went 5P cuz that would = around 120K and he has never sold more than that. Yeah, I know the the sections are usually big, but I feel like it is too big to just be from one review only. I mean I feel like the review can be further condensed if that makes sense. Or if you have a mouse with a center click, just scroll over the name on the left, and center click it, which will open it up in a new tab, and again just copy the URL. Let me know if you need more information on that. lol. I would be cautious about Greek album reviews since there aren't really many online, and from "good sources" at that. About the numbers, I was surprised too that they were lowered so drastically. But then again if you look at sales before that, albums from popular singers were having trouble to even go gold, when in the past they would go platinum no problem. The Greek music industry is obviously in a bad state right now. I am not sure if the international album numbers have changed, but I guess we will know for sure about both Greek and International numbers this month when the new IFPI site/system is supposed to be done. On a side note, I have a feeling the new IFPI system will take into account digital downloads of albums for the album charts, and hopefully they will also include a separate digital download chart like other countries. 30,000 seemed reasonable in terms of comparison with other countries. Before, to get platinum, one out of every 370 people in Greece had to buy an album (11200000/30000) compared to one out of every 307 people in America (307000000/1000000) and one out of every 420 people in Canada (3373300/80000). Well it has been getting lower every year. Just a few years back it used to be 60,000 for platinum. The Greek music industry is not in a good place right now, with less and less people buying traditional albums due to various reasons. (Pirating, ridiculously high prices, digital age, etc). In fact most labels dropped traditional CD-singles all together, while IFPI had discontinued the CD-Single chart. Let's see what the new IFPI will be like.
