[edit] Concern: beginning to sound like a PR page

I have noticed that many of the most recent changes, made between 19 December 2011 to 20 February 2012, focusing on Social Responsibility, Achievements and Awards, and Sponsorship are beginning to make the article look like an exercise in public relations instead of an encyclopaedic article. Don't get me wrong, some of the changes such as the history and ownership structure of the company are very welcome additions. --Discott (talk) 13:50, 26 February 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Rewrite

I've rewritten the article, making the following changes:

  • merged info from Absa into here and made that article into a redirect
  • added some info from the Absa website
  • wikilinked more terms related to finance topics
  • removed unverified info (that I did not find on the Absa site)
  • removed info on the directors and CEO (I don't think such info is encyclopedic)

I disagree, information on the directors and CEO is central to the information about ABSA, as well as who the major shareholders are. A list of historical CEO's would be even better. Please add it back in or even expand it, will you? Lifeboy 18:59, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

I agree with statement that the FULL list of the executive board should be removed from the body of the article. It is also not in keeping with the standard format for Wikipedia bank profiles, indeed company wiki profiles of any kind. So I have moved most of the most important members of Absa's executive board to the info box, where it is standard format for them to be located as it is important basic information (ie. the type of info that belongs in the info box), and removed the rest. If anyone wishes to dispute this they are more then welcome to. However I have yet to come across a well written Wikipedia company profile that has a complete list of ALL a company's executive board as well as a complete chronologically of their former CEO's. If I am wrong in this regard then please do inform me. Thanks--Discott (talk) 16:48, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Edits by ABSA Corporate Communication

This page was edited by Mr. Dave Glazier from ABSA's Corporate Communication division to remove items that reflect negatively on ABSA. This content has now been restored. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.245.180.27 (talk) 21:21, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for doing that. We must keep an eye on this page. There is not much in Wikipedia more troubling then corporates editing there own pages to either market them selves, deprive the public of important information of them selves and/or mislead people.--Discott (talk) 13:42, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
