An accounting machine was a small computer...[edit]

What is the source for this? Accounting machines were made by IBM, Burroughs, and others, that most certainly were not computers. See, for example Tabulating machine and the link in "See Also" to IBM Products where multiple accounting machines are listed. tooold 16:24, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Agree + anecdote: Jubilee Engeneering and Art Metal[edit]

My dad had a Sweedish accounting machine labelled Jubillee Engineering, an adding machine to match, and a card index chest with a notched floor. The system used payment cards from customers, yellow cards for accouning, and a giant sheet of paper for showing figures to an accountant at the end of the year. It would punch through the customers' payment card and carbon paper to the account sheet, through the yellow card and the same carbon paper to another column on the account seet, and that was the gist of it.

Apparently the rival, at the Business Efficiency Exhibition in London in the late 50s, was from Art Metal of the UK. Their system could do very slightly less. I hope someone finds a few pictures and confirmations of this; if I get more certain I might post here

Agreeing with the paragraph below, the machine added, printed through a couple of cards onto big account paper, and one of the groups of cards called Yellow Cards had notched bases for easy display.
