Name change[edit]

I just stumbled here using Random article - if you mention the name was changed, why not tell us what the name originally was? If I had to guess, I would say it was just "Acton," but I shouldn't have to guess! John (Jwy) 16:38, 9 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sources differ as to when the name was changed. I've noted it for further work. Britmax (talk) 22:21, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Map[edit]

The Victorian Super Outer Circle route map doesn't actually have Acton Central station marked on it, so as a source of its location, it's not ideal. I shall remove it unless anyone has a better map. Sciencefish (talk) 10:40, 24 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's the next blob up from South Acton. --Redrose64 (talk) 20:24, 24 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

Coming from Willesden Junction station there are two 'distinctive noises' as the power system changes - in which order do the two 'power collectors' (pantograph and third-rail contact) move downwards? Jackiespeel (talk) 16:37, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Drivers are not supposed to change over whilst moving - only when stopped in the station. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 20:52, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The first 'clunk' (if one is sitting under the collector) #is# while the train is coming in - and the direction of travel will be significant. Jackiespeel (talk) 21:58, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
So are the trains briefly dual powered or not externally powered? Jackiespeel (talk) 10:03, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
They change over when stopped, so no power is being fed to the motors. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 14:00, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks - and, sitting under the collector (ie inside the train) the first 'clunk' South Acton wards is definitely as the train is coming to a halt (and can make people jump). Jackiespeel (talk)

It occurs as the train passes the level crossing - so what would be the cause? Jackiespeel (talk) 21:52, 28 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Scheduled for closure by Beeching but didn't[edit]

I can't find why it never closed, although in the original report. When was there a reversal of this and why? Sciencefish (talk) 14:24, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Sciencefish: This may be described in London Suburban Railways: Willesden Junction to Richmond (figures 28-34), a book which I don't have. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 23:29, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
