Untitled[edit]

I can't help noticing that this article, along with a couple of others on Deftones albums (Around the Fur, Adrenaline (album), White Pony) all say this:

X is Deftones' third album that which released in Y. "A" and "B" mock the music and image of mystical, allegedly demonic bands like Kiss, Rainbow, Pantera, Faith No More, KoRn or Black Sabbath; "C" in particular is a riot thanks to Tufnel's narration about the Druids.

where X is the album name, Y the year of release, and A, B and C song titles. The above can't be suitable for all these albums, surely? I can't fix it, because about all I know about the Deftones is what the White Pony sleeve looks like. Furthermore, I don't know who this "Tufnel" chap is. Bit of work required, methinks. --Camembert

It has nothing to do with the albums. Tufnel, I would guess, is Nigel Tufnel, of Spinal Tap. Nothing to do with Deftones, so far as I know. As for "mocking demonic bands"? I don't know, but I've never heard anything like that in any of the Deftones songs -- Jimregan

"7 Words" is the first single released by Deftones, taken from their first album, Adrenaline. It was released in 1995 by Maverick Records. This song is dedicated to the seven dirty words, hence the name.

Though much of the lyrics are ambiguous, the content seems to revolve around racism and police profiling. The video shows the band playing in a small club and occasionally shows some small clips of the band on the streets.

It was also released as a limited edition promo vinyl, with their song "Teething" on the b-side.

"Bored" is a single by American alternative rock band Deftones, released in 1996. It is taken from their début album, 1995's Adrenaline.

A music video was recorded for the track, directed by Nick Egan.[1] It was filmed in Sacramento, California in 1996, after a long stint of touring. Shooting took place at lead singer Chino Moreno's house, and their old rehearsal space.[2]

About the genres in the infobox...[edit]

This section have been created due the continuos genre warring in pages related with the band Deftones i found that one editor is heavilly determined with introducing the genre "Nu metal" in numerous articles, i've reverted it's edits because and restored the genres to the ones that due convention Deftones is always labeled because:

  • No verifiable/reliable source has been given
  • The band themselves disagrees with being labeled as such
  • Nu metal and Rap metal aren't the same genre.

I'm inviting the I.P. user to discuss his/her point of view and to provide reaal verifiable refernces, otherwise i'll revert all of his/her edits Massivesquid (talk) 19:26, 24 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

nu metal[edit]

don't change nu metal as the main genre since this is deftones most nu metal sounding album, and is considered one of the most influential nu metal albums

Genre[edit]

This issue has been raised before, and I'm raising it again. If you are going to make edits regarding the albums genre, make sure to use a reliable source that deals directly with this album. A review by a local newspaper about a live gig they did does not constitute a reliable source. A reliable source needs to be dealing specifically with this album. I have used Ultimate Guitar Archive and iTunes as sources. If anyone feels the need to change it, please state your reasons here. Also, please see this article. Robvanvee 10:06, 3 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • The Rochester source does in fact refer specifically to the album debut as turning Deftones into the "toast" of the "post-hardcore" world. I'm not sure why a review from a newspaper in a relatively large Northeastern United States city is considered an unreliable source. I'm very confused as to your "iTunes" source as well. The iTunes source, in fact, (believe it or not) seems a lot less reliable. It lists "Music" as a genre, refers to "Adult Alternative" as a genre despite it being a radio format, and, most bizarrely, refers to the album as "Hair Metal." This is beyond absurd. I believe there was either a legitimate mistake or deliberate joke which listed Deftones as "hair metal" on Allmusic. It seems, for good reason, that nowhere else on the internet is this genre associated with either Adrenaline or Deftones in general. It would seem that iTunes takes most of its "genres" from the Allmusic genre sidebar, which I believe is either frowned upon as a source for genres or has been outright banned as a source. Overall, I think it would be on the safer side to avoid the iTunes source. Furthermore, most of the "genres" used through the source can easily be implied through the inclusive genres of "alternative metal"/"alternative rock." I hardly think it's necessary to put "heavy metal" and "hard rock" as genres, as they seem a bit redundant, especially after already stating that the album is "alternative metal."

Madreterra (talk) 21:28, 3 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Point taken, after a bit of research I agree those sources are not reliable and yours should stay. Robvanvee 14:48, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
iTunes can be used as a source, but not by the genre tags. If the Editors' review (not the consumers' reviews) describe it as nu metal, that's reliable. I haven't looked at the reviews for Adrenaline on iTunes, I don't know if it even has one. 65.185.86.64 (talk) 15:25, 23 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Another genre change.[edit]

I wasn't even trying to look for genre refs for this page, but I hit the genre jackpot anyway.

Some genres are just listed generally, but they are linked to their metal variants (progressive metal, atmospheric metal (which is post-metal), and alternative metal), and the rest are just mentioned there.

http://metaldescent.com/nu-metal/

If you decide to revert me, at least keep the nu metal extra ref. I thought that addition may have been alarming so I made sure to mention it down here. Cheers, DannyMusicEditor (talk) 21:23, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Atmoshpheric[edit]

When adding a genre, match what the source says. Do not re-interpret it as we can't be 100% sure what they are saying. So if it says "atmospheric metal" then add that to the article. Andrzejbanas (talk) 16:34, 19 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Metal Descent[edit]

Judging by the about section here, this appears to be a fan site. Thoughts? Andrzejbanas (talk) 13:04, 20 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
