Too many inaccuracies in the previous text[edit]

The previous text had a whole string of inaccuracies, some of which were quite serious. They were:

1) There was not such a thing an island of Rialto. There was a group of islands called Rivoalto. Rialto is the name of the area where the market is.
2) Civitas Vetianum was a term that started to be used in later times.
3) It is not clear at all that the Antenori doges called Pepin to support them. It has been argued that Pepin was in negotiations with the Byzantines, but these broke down and he decided to invade the duchy of Venice because the Antenori doges's ambiguous stance caused the talks to fail.
4) Campiello DEL Cason did not become the first doge's palace. This Campiello was by the church of SS. Apostoli, in Cannaregio. The doge's palace was built further south, where it still is, in what is now St. Mark's Square. Moreover, it is not certain that Agnello's house was actually in this campiello. It is only known that he had property in the area of SS. Apostoli.
5) There is no record on Agnello establishing a mint.
6) The urban development of Venice was not centred on Rialto. The Olivolo island (today's S. Pietro in Castello), Castello, St. Mark's and SS. Apostoli were the early nuclei of urban expansion.
7) Agnello did not rebuild Torcello, Burano and Rialto. None of these places needed rebuilding. He only rebuilt Heraclea.
8) The Gran Canal was not "born" at this time. It had been there all along.
9) There is no record of Agnello building bridges over the River Brenta on the mainland coast of the lagoon.
10) Agnello did not oppose Giustiniano and certainly did not besiege him at San Severo. Giustiniano managed to change his father's mind.
11) Agnello appointed his third son Agnello as co-doge at the same time as Giustiniano's appointment to the same position.
