Proposed Revision[edit]

I am proposing to revert the edits recent made by User:Carrentalagent as they may constitute a form of vandalism. This note is so that the user is given the opportunity to insert citations verifying his changes as fact before the revision occurs. Thanks. Jasynnash2 (talk) 13:08, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The changes are indeed fact and provide information that may be helpful to prospective car rental clients and job seekers. User:Carrentalagent —Preceding comment was added at 18:59, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Simply stating "the changes are indeed fact" doesn't provide any citation as such. I'm gonna give it a couple more days for a citation to appear or something else to represent that the section is not just a disgruntled employee or I'll revert the article as POV. Cheap Rates, “Bait Rates”[edit]

(Have saved the section I removed as part of the actions spoken about previously) The full text of the section is below. Thanks. Jasynnash2 (talk) 09:09, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alamo Rent A Car is well known for its cheap rates but it makes up for them with the sales of extras at the counter. Alamo’s highly motivated and skilled counter sales agents aggressively suggest and recommend to their customers that they purchase various extras such as insurance packages, upgrades to more expensive vehicles, pre-pay fuel options, GPS rentals and additional drivers. The prices of the extras are fixed with the exception of the vehicle upgrades, for which the Alamo agent has the freedom to charge as much as possible without limit. Alamo rental agents are well compensated with commissions based on these sales and are the highest paid counter agents in the industry, often making 2 to 3 times more than the Alamo managers. The staple Alamo objective, which has been imitated by many, is to capture more reservations with low rates which lure more customers to the counter where the front line sales staff then persuades the clientele to spend more money.

Alamo actually "invented" CDW (collision damage waiver) as a profit center in the 1980s and their aggressive upselling of "forced CDW" eventually made the California state legistlature (and other states) cap waiver fees up to a specific dollar amount. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.101.112.2 (talk) 17:54, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Wheelchair-bound"[edit]

"Wheelchair-bound" is considered derogatory usage and should not be reintroduced into the article. Please see List of disability-related terms with negative connotations before reverting this change again. --Vassilissa (talk) 08:55, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?[edit]

Jeff Foxworthy's joke about this is "If you think "Remember the Alamo!" is the slogan for the rental car company, you might not be smarter than a 5th grader!" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.225.106.84 (talk) 03:43, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Edit Request[edit]

NOTE: I am proposing this edit for FleishmanHillard on behalf of Alamo Rent a Car. I am a paid editor and am aware of the COI guidelines. I am submitting this edit request to propose revisions and additions to the article in hopes of providing additional information about the company’s history and correcting an inaccuracy found in the article.

Thank you for your consideration. Jon Gray (talk) 22:08, 5 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Extended content
  • Propose adding “Asia” to the list of locations/regions where Alamo branches operate.
  • Suggest: Updating first sentence to read (suggested additions/sourcing in bold):

Alamo Rent a Car is a car rental agency in the United States. Based in Clayton, Missouri, it has branches across North America, South America, Africa, Europe, Asia [1] and Oceania.

---

History

  • As we are suggesting additional historical context and information about the company, we propose adding a “History” heading to better categorize the existing article and proposed additions below.
  • Suggest: Adding a History header underneath the first line of the article.

---

  • To add additional information to the company’s history, propose adding a milestone in the company’s history (2005) regarding the company’s introduction of an online check-in system for customers.
  • Suggest: adding a new sentence after what is currently the sixth sentence of the article (suggested additions/sourcing in bold):

ANC filed for bankruptcy a year later; its properties were sold to Vanguard Automotive Group (controlled by Cerberus Capital Management) in 2003. In 2005, Alamo introduced an online check-in system that allowed customers to submit registration information prior to arrival to bypass counter check-in. [2]

---

  • The sentence beginning with “In 2007,” erroneously refers to Enterprise Rent-A-Car as the largest rental car company in North America (it is actually Enterprise Holdings, which owns Enterprise Rent-A-Car). Furthermore, the current source article used from The New York Times is written as if Enterprise Rent-A-Car purchased Vanguard/Alamo, when in actuality, it was purchased by Enterprise Holdings. We propose clarifying this passage for clarity and accuracy.
  • Suggest: Clarifying the passage with the following additions/changes (suggested additions/sourcing in bold):

In 2007, Alamo’s parent company [3] Vanguard was acquired by Enterprise Holdings, operator of the largest rental car company in North America, which operates the Alamo Rent A Car, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, and National Car Rental brands. [4]

---

  • Suggest: adding the following information/passages to the “History” section to flesh out additional information about the company (suggested additions/sourcing in bold):

Franchise agreements made by Enterprise Holdings expanded Alamo’s operations to countries including Japan [5], Uruguay [6], Belize [7], Sweden [8], and the British Virgin Islands. [9]

In 2012, Alamo was ranked among the top-three rental car brands for airport customer satisfaction by J.D. Power and Associates [10]. Subsequent top-three rankings from J.D. Power occurred between 2013 and 2017. [11] [12] [13] [14] [15] J.D. Power ranked Alamo ranked 5th in 2018.[16]

Annually, Alamo releases the results of its Family Vacation Survey, which gathers information about U.S. consumers’ attitudes and habits regarding vacations. [17] [18] [19]

---

Partnerships

  • Propose adding a Partnerships section to house the following suggested addition.
  • Suggest adding the following sentence under the new "Partnerships" header to provide additional information about the company and its partnership with Walt Disney Co. (suggested additions/sourcing in bold):

In 2002, The Walt Disney Company announced Alamo Rent-a-Car as its official rental car company for Disneyland, Disney World and Walt Disney Travel Company. [20]

___________

  1. ^ It is not the purpose of Wikipedia to act as a directory listing of Alamo's various franchise agreements. See WP:NOTADIRECTORY.
  2. ^ The topic of "JD Power Top Rental Car Brands" is not independently notable in Wikipedia.
  3. ^ The provided reason for making this change was " to flesh out additional information about the company". What wasn't described was how and in what way this information on the gathering of consumer attitudes works to "flesh out" information about the company.
  4. ^ The proposed claim describes an "announcement" rather than a state of affairs. If Alamo had been designated as official car company of the Walt Disney company and had acted as such for a determined period of time, then this fact should be stated as such. The supplied reference currently states that "Walt Disney Co. is expected Friday to name Alamo Rent-a-Car the official rental car company of two of its U.S. theme parks and resorts." From the perspective of the reference at the time it was published, the naming of Alamo as official rental car car company had yet to occur — rather, it was "expected" to occur. As references cannot be witnesses to events which have not yet occurred, this reference would not be usable for a claim regarding Alamo serving (after the fact) as official car company of the Walt Disney company.

Edit Request – “Partnerships” Section[edit]

NOTE: I am proposing this edit for FleishmanHillard on behalf of Alamo Rent a Car. I am a paid editor and am aware of the COI guidelines.

Following our previous edit request, we have secured better sourcing to validate the announcement of the Alamo/Disney partnership, our suggested content under the newly-proposed “Partnerships” section. Please see below for the proposed edit and related sourcing. Thank you for your consideration.

Reply 8-OCT-2019[edit]

  Clarification requested

  • The proposed claim states that "The Walt Disney Company announced Alamo Rent-a-Car as its official rental car company". The Walt Disney Company did not make this announcement according to the Sun-Sentinel source, which states "Alamo said it is assuming the title from sister company National Car Rental, which has held it for 22 years." This would peg the statement as originating from Alamo, and not Disney, as the claim purports.
  • Kindly revise the claim statement accordingly, or else provide a source from Disney itself which makes this same claim. When ready to proceed with the requested information, kindly change the {{request edit}} template's answer parameter to read from |ans=yes to |ans=no. Thank you!

Reply 10-OCT-2019 re: naming[edit]

  • By stating that something is being named something is to imply that someone else is doing the naming. This would be evident through the use of the {{by whom}} template, which proscribes that this naming individual be identified.
  • To preclude the use of that template in this claim statement, kindly identify whom it was who named Alamo in this position. That would be either the Walt Disney company (as evidenced by a citation provided from them) or else the Alamo company (already evidenced by a citation provided from the Sun-Sentinel, which is the result of reporting on from Alamo's press release issued by Alamo itself). If this is Alamo stating that this naming occurred, then the claim should start with "According to Alamo...."
  • Ideally, a closed timeframe should be affixed to this claim so that the reader is aware of which time period pertains to the naming of this position (e.g., 1995–2005, etc.).[a] As stated in a prior review, open timeframes which run into the WP:FUTURE ought to be closed by wording them as "to the present", or through the use of the {{As of}} template. It goes without saying that any timeframe used in the claim ought to be referenced by an appropriate citation verifying whichever timeframe is used.

Regards,  Spintendo  02:28, 11 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Notes

  1. ^ This is to prevent the reader from assuming that Alamo still occupies the position of official car rental agency for Disney — a position which they otherwise might not currently occupy — a timeframe for which, to date, no clarifying reference has been provided.
