History[edit]

A few items I don't have time to add myself:

Alpena, Dates Of Early Events is a very informative book of notable events from 1857 to 1914. Tends to follow a "build, build, burn" pattern with some shipwrecks, deaths, and community events mixed in. Not much info on each event but it is a good starting point for other research.

An Alpena News article regarding the book Molitor - The Murder of a Northern Michigan King tells the story of Albert Molitor, a politician and scoundrel who was responsible for the split of Presque Isle county from Alpena County and the creation of Rogers City.

The gangster Blinky Morgan, responsible for the 1887 death of a police officer in Cleveland, had an HQ in Alpena and was captured here.

[Untitled][edit]

Dear Alpena Wikipedians:

I put in two new categories. Local events, Local museums, Performing arts etc. These need to be filled up, not only with events and places, but with suitable links, etc.

HELP.

Thanks. 7&6=thirteen (talk) 21:54, 12 December 2007 (UTC)Stan[reply]

Pictures[edit]

This article could benefit from a picture or two. Maybe the Harbor and downtown, or the Brown Trout festival? Can somebody help? 7&6=thirteen (talk) 12:22, 13 December 2007 (UTC)Stan[reply]

A picture of the 45th Parallel sign on Squaw Bay south of Alpena on US-23 would be a nice addition. 7&6=thirteen (talk) 00:33, 18 December 2007 (UTC)Stan[reply]

Local events need to be organized[edit]

We have quite a few events. They are essentially random and disorganized. They could be better organized chronologically or alphabetically or by subject matter. Any thoughts. Anybody want to try? 7&6=thirteen (talk) 18:23, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Stan[reply]

I did this alphabetically. Anyone think it would be better chronologically? 7&6=thirteen (talk) 00:34, 18 December 2007 (UTC)Stan[reply]

Northern Michigan article[edit]

Additionally, Alpena area local events do not hardly exist in the Northern Michigan page which has its own list.

We need to put some of these there.

Need a climate section[edit]

I was just to the article on Cadillac, Michigan and note that they have a section that looks this this.

Climate[edit]

Cadillac experiences a typical northern Michigan climate, undergoing temperate seasonal changes, influenced by the presence of Lake Michigan and the inevitable lake effect. Winters are generally cold with large amounts of snowfall. Summers are warm. [1] The average high temperature in July is 79 °F (26 °C) and the average low is in January, at 10 °F (-12 °C). Summer temperatures can exceed 90 °F (32 °C), and winter temperatures can drop below 0 °F (-18 °C). Average annual rainfall is 32 inches (81 cm), and average annual snowfall is 71 inches (180 cm) . Snowfall typically occurs between the months of November and March.

Month Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec Year
Avg. high °F 25 28 38 52 66 74 79 76 68 55 42 30 53
Avg. low °F 9 8 17 29 40 49 54 52 44 35 26 16 32
Rainfall, in inches 1.87 1.37 2.05 2.67 2.85 2.99 3.12 3.81 3.99 3.16 2.70 1.98 32.56

I 've never done one of these. Is there somebody out there who can help.

Cityscape and Historic Landmarks[edit]

Dear fellow Alpena/Michigan Wikipedians:

FWIW, in Cadillac, Michigan, I note that they have two subsections in their article that would really fit into the Alpena, Michigan article.

They are Cityscape and Historic Landmarks

It would be helpful if someone familiar with the lay of the land could do narrative sections like they did in Cadillac, Michigan.

Just a gentle suggestion and a request for assistance from someone with subject matter expertise. Thanks 7&6=thirteen (talk) 16:33, 6 January 2008 (UTC)Stan[reply]

I think the following items belong in this article[edit]

These items were removed by some overzealous editors. There was a claim that one of these was a "spam link," which is patently false. Since I have quit editing myself, I'm not making these changes, but I think these items should be put back in by someone.

I believe Bob Seger was born in Alpena. - Neildown —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.142.162.25 (talk) 20:46, 24 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Google "Bob Seger birth place" and you get things like this which indicate Dearborn, Michigan at IMDB. 7&6=thirteen (talk) 20:57, 24 January 2010 (UTC) Stan[reply]
