I usually like to make wikilinks on all of the names, because they all should be equally important. Some of the links you made didn't have pages, and you were using no logic aparent to me as to which ones should be linked. I didn't know that you intended to make pages for the ones that weren't linked. LittleDan

The names I linked that had no article are ones I have plans to get around to. While ideally I'd like articles on everyone worth even a passing mention, some I'd get to much sooner than others. Best wishes, -- Infrogmation 21:26 Apr 20, 2003 (UTC)

Dear Sir,

How has Picou come to be credited with creating the clarinet solo to High Society? The solo appears in its entirety in the band parts for High Society published in 1902. Did Picou ever record the solo?

I have a record of Prince's band made in 1911 with the solo played as a piccolo part.

I have never heard anyone play the piccolo obbligato completely correctly. Most play the first 8 bars and then improvise something of their own.

I suppose it is called the Picou solo because he used to play it. It would be interesting to know exactly what he did play.

Picou recorded High Society several times in the 1940s and 1950s, some of which are availible on cd (including with Papa Celestin's band and on the American Music cd "Prelude to the Revival"); there's even film footage of him playing it. As the article notes, he based the clarinet solo on the piccolo obligato, though changing the instrument and modifying it some. -- Infrogmation 18:01, 3 Sep 2003 (UTC)
