Serious errors to be rectified[edit]

He was never Earl of Leicester. John gave his father's holdings to Chester, out of revenge for Magna Carta, and the father was killed before he ever returned to England to hold the Plantagenets to account for the breach of the Charter they had just signed. Henry III continued to block the inheritance, because Chester was far more powerful than the young de Montfort, who in any case owed fealty to the French King, making him anathema to Henry. The result was his father's holdings were split, his brother Simon, five years his junior, taking the English holdings while Amaury took the French. Amaury VI of Montfort → Amaury de Montfort (died 1241) – The numbering is confusing: this individial is numbered IV, VI or VII in other language Wikis; Amaury VI de Montfort commonly refers to someone else, Amaury IV of Évreux.
